Chevy says 40 percent of those who purchased a new Corvette in December opted for a Z06 model. After my day zooming around Nevada’s Spring Mountain Motor Resort, I quickly understood why.
The inspiring video, “Why We Race,” highlights racing’s impact on the production of the Corvette, while suggesting that any performance improvements to be made to the C7 and Z06 will likely come from the racetrack as well.
After that now-infamous video of a stock Viper walking a stock Z06 in seven straight races, Corvette Forum member Nine Ball decided to take the race to the dyno.
After learning the 2015 Corvette Z06 earned Top Gear’s “Muscle Car of the Year,” we expected that some great footage of the guys testing the car was bound to pop up at some point.
It’s not heat soak. It’s actually the ECU cutting power after you’ve wrung the new Z06’s neck for an extended period. Still, this race has people talking.
This rant goes out to the group that has decided that buying the last-generation Z06 is the far-better investment than the new car, especially when you throw in a few performance modifications.
Motor Trend seems to have all the fun. They get Ferraris, Porsches and all other sorts of super exotica. They were also able to score one of the first drives of the new Corvette Z06. Determining from the video after the jump, the car is heroic.
