4 Reasons to Spend $70k on a C5 Corvette Instead of a C7

A recent Corvette Forum thread posited that for the roughly $70K it costs to buy a new C7 Corvette, one could spend that much money on a C5. I’m going to play devil’s advocate here and try to see their side of things. Make no mistake — the C5 is a phenomenal car, and for the price, there is no better bargain for performance cars right now than a C5 Z06. Twenty grand will get you a nice one, so what would I do with the remaining $50K?

1) Build the Bejesus Out of It

$50K is a lot to play with when it comes to modifications. That money could give you the Corvette of your dreams, with a fully built engine, suspension tweaks, custom paint, and a new interior just a phone call away.

2) Go Racing

$50K buys entry into the best racing schools in the country, and once you’ve honed your skills, there’s plenty left over for track days and tires!

3) Build a Garage Mahal

Every Corvette deserves the best, and with $50K at your disposal, you could build a dream garage, with a lift for servicing, a sophisticated climate control system, and all of the tools and detailing supplies you would ever need to keep your Corvette running and looking amazing.

4) Buy Two

All I know is, I’m a cat person, and when your cat doesn’t have a buddy, it causes trouble, so you really need two: your cat, and your cat’s cat, to keep them company when you’re gone for the day instead of tearing your house up. I’m assuming Corvettes work the same way.

Even if you went for some combination of the three above, and built up your Corvette for track days with a nice garage for it to sleep in, you’d probably have enough coin left over to buy a second ‘Vette. You could leave it as a bone-stock future collectible while you mercilessly cane your main ride around the nicest road courses in America stress-free. Or maybe your significant other could get in on the fun.

This was easier than I thought. Maybe jdsaengine, who posted that thread, had the right idea. If you need me, I’ll be searching Craigslist for C5 Z06s.
