the cheapest way is slow down i would think myself that a radar detector stuck in the middle of the windshield doesnt do anything but advertise that you cant obey the speed limits. and looks like crap to boot might as well get a cb and screw it to the dash

You talk so much crap about the V1 and you know nothing but how to slap your gums together.

This is from Roy from Radarbusters.com and he doesn't even sell the V1:

V1 has 75% Ka POP detection according to Roy. I believe him before I believe SML.

Craig Peterson, the idiot from RadarTest.com tested POP range on the RX65 and the 8500 X50 and these are his results. For some reason, they didn't test the V1.

The X50 and RX65 only detected Ka POP 40% of the time from 1500 ft. away.

From 3000 ft. away, they both detected Ka POP 80% of the time.

From 4500 ft. away, the RX65 detected Ka POP 80% of the time and the X50 detected it 60% of the time.

So Roy said the V1 has 75% Ka POP protection and SML said the V1 has 0% Ka POP protection. Craig Peterson said that the X50 and RX65 have Ka POP protection anywhere from 40%-80% of the time.

V1 detects K and Ka POP the best according to this independent test as well so you can just keep on blabbing your lies MinnesotaWhite.
Don't try and tell me this test is not valid because Radar Roy was there while they tested them and he doesn't sell the V1.

Bahaha...I was waiting for you. Frankly by the way you respond to peoples posts about the V1, I'd say you must be Mr. Valentine himself. Valentine like to cheap shot people and call them down, and I've seen you do this over and over again in radar posts.

Babbling my lies huh? Did you even click the speedtest link I put up?

Oh...RadarRoy says it's the best huh? You don't read Radar Roys website very often then do you...let's see...click here:

http://www.radarbusters.com/products...rs/default.asp

Let me quote from Radar Roys website since you see him as the authority on radar detectors:

"Bel RX 65 The Best Radar Detector Radar Roy has ever tested!"

This is on the radar detector home page.

So no...you sir are spreading lies and half truths to maintain the myth that people should waste their money on a V1.

Next time...before you take shots at anyone, do your research first.

*edit* Since you are probably hounding Radar Roy right now to take that statement down, I thought I'd screenshot his website for you (and that you don't seem to like clicking links too).

OK. I have never used a radar detector, so help me here. Our local gendarmes have taken to hiding just over the crest of a hill and use the guns. If I come cruising over the hill at 85 in a 70, will the detector help me, or will it just tell me I've been zapped?

You don't need line of sight for the detector to go off if theres any trees/buildings/cars, etc. Maybe if you're cruising in the flat desert alone.

When my detector goes off 1/2-1.5 mile ahead, and there's a bunch of cars and curves and hills between me and the cop, he has no chance of tagging me. He needs line of sight.

I've been using radar detectors for about 20+ years. From the first Kleenex size units to a passport. The last 2 have been from Bel. It is 3 years old at least and no probs. A Detector only helps as a tool. Get the one you can afford. My detectors ALWAYS pay for themselves in a half year. A detector is not 100% effective, you will sooner or later be caught. Some states I believe they are illegal...I'm not sure, check first. I was told Washington they were illegal????
Just remember you get what you pay for, some of the newer models are upgradeable most are not.

Had a Bel a few years ago and it had excellent detection ability for a good price, but was falsing (or detecting) continuously all the way to my work even though there was never any cops. Have a Passport 8500 which has saved my butt many times over the past couple years - excellent anti falsing system. I don't need to know about a radar trap 4500 feet away in my rural/urban driving around here. Just soon enough for me to apply brakes (1500-2000 feet?). Those living out west may need the additional warning due to less traffic, but so far it's location in front of rear view mirror has worked great.

Also, 5 mph over speed limit in a Vette WILL get you a ticket here whereas faster in a minivan will rarely get you even a glance! Couldn't be because Vettes are targeted, could it??

I would not pay extra $$ for the V for the arrows showing where the radar is, others may find it useful for their driving methods or areas. Neither the 8500 or Valentine is inexpensive, so good luck with your decision. Remember, a radar detector is only one more tool to help prevent a ticket - not a guarantee.

That depends on the situation. If there was a car before you that went over that hill and got zapped then you'd probably pick that up and your detector would go off. It would depend on how good your radar dectector was if it would activate and how far ahead of you the car could be. It would also depend on if they used instant on, activating the radar when they see you, or had the radar set to continuously on. If the gun was on all the time, you'd pick it up way far back. If it was instant on you might pick up a faint signal and think it was a false signal. There is an art to using a detector! I've used one since I got my liscense and they have saved me probably a hundred times.

Around here no one is stopped unless they are at least 10 MPH over. I set my cruise at 7 MPH over and have no front plate, I haven't been bothered at all.

Radar detector smack-down??? I love it!

I use the passport 8500 as it seemed to avoid false alerts the best, and that is what I hate about detectors. The extra "options" the V1 has over the 8500 do not interest me. They both do their jobs well however, and you probably could not go wrong. I have mine mounted just under the rearview mirror with a brakcet I fabbed so it is barely noticeable. Hard wired too, so no cord.

Get the cobra at Target or similar place, mount it next to the rear view mirror, direct wire it to the power for your visor light. It does okay, as long as you pick your spots!!!!!! Just remember, by the time the detector sounds, the cop will have you at the same time, if he chooses and is paying attention....

There are times watching for police will help more then having a radar detector. I've beat an officer to the breaks before he used the instant on gun many of times. Pay attention!

Here is what my research shows about the RX65 Minnesota:

I guess you didn't notice this test where the RX65 doesn't even rate in the top 4.

2005 Motor Trend Radar-Detector Buyer's Guide
Over $200 Radar/Laser Detectors

Valentine One
$399.95
www.valentineone.com
Total points: 88

+ Outstanding radar and laser detection abilities
- Lacks integrated laser jamming capabilities

With its directional arrows, combined with outstanding sensitivity across all bands, the Valentine One remains the standard by which all other radar/laser detectors are measured against.

BEL Vector 995
$259.95
www.beltronics.com
Total points: 84

+ Outstanding radar and laser detection, Euro-capable
- POP mode performance disappointing

With outstanding performance combined with aggressive pricing at retail, the BEL Vector 995 strikes the perfect balance between performance and value, especially when matched with optional Laser Pro 905 laser blocker.

Escort Passport 8500 X50
$299.95 (red display)
$329.95 (blue display)
www.escortradar.com
Total points: 78

+ Only unit in the test responding 100% to POP mode threat
- Laser detection capabilities fall short of competitive units

The high-tech, feature-rich Escort 8500 X50 is an impressive detector that provides strong protection. A very fine performer overall, the 8500 X50 would have ranked higher with better laser detection scores. Its primary shortcomings in laser detection are addressed when matched up with the available ZR3 laser shifter.

I could go on and on about how the Valentine One is the best but don't take it from me, listen to the polls.

SoCalEuro Site:

http://www.socaleuro.com/forum/showt...ight=valentine

Valentine One gets 71%
Escort gets 8%
Bel gets 8%

Corvette Forum:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...=valentine+one

Valentine One gets 70%
Escort gets 29%

Corvette Forum:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ne&forum_id=74

Valentine One gets over 52%
Bel RX65 gets less than 6%

I think most people on this forum and other car forums are very intelligent and even if these polls had a 10% margin of error, the Valentine One would still be #1 by a longshot.

If you wanna talk stats, 92% of those polls are pointless because the people voting have not used the various detectors.
