As far as V1 falses, 90% of them are on X band. You can turn xband off. In CA at least, X band is not used by police anymore.
Correct CHP uses Ka Band

X Band: Automatic doors, motion detectors etc

I have a 8500 X50 and it is definetely a great radar detector. Last one I had was a $120 piece of crap from bestbuy and while it worked, it definetely lacked in range and didn't have the POP function. I think the Bel RX65 and the Passport 8500 X50 are pretty much the best bang for your buck because they offer great range/sensitivity and at least with the X50 you can eliminate certain bands if you dont' need them. I got rid of X-band cause its too damn annoying.
