My only current question is does anyone know how to let audio keep playing when the car is put into reverse?
Try using 320 or 400 grit sand paper to shape it.

Will do when I take it out for the reverse camera installation in a few weeks. Thank you.

Why aren't you using the unit's built in GPS?

It was actually pairing with that GPS but my Bluetooth dongle GPS refreshes 10 times a second and gives better accuracy for lap timing

I am looking into these chinese android head units, but I can't find any information about parametric EQ, crossovers, time correction, etc. Can anyone confirm if these head units are capable of controlling these things?

What head units of any type or brand are not Chinese?

If you provide a link to a free Android app of interest, then perhaps I or other owners can test it for you to confirm compatibility.

I'll look around for an app. Am I to take it that they have no such thing out of the box? And the same for the others?

My 2014 model had only a traditional equalizer preinstalled, but the beauty of an Android head unit is that you are not limited to what comes "out of the box!"

As far as equalization, yes, I would agree... that should be very easy to implement on any android device. Somebody would just have to make a quality app. But it is my understanding that there is separate hardware controlling the outputs. I think the others would have to be more proprietary things that could not be simply implemented through an app unless it was created by the manufacturer or 3rd party for a specific device.

I can probably live without time correction, but having crossover control is probably a requirement for me. If there is no control available on yours, would you happen to know the default frequencies and slope for the main outputs and sub? Thanks.

I believe I can help with some of this. You are correct that sound from the built in amp does not go through the OS. The builtin apps simply control the amp. I discovered this when I downloaded an audio visualization app and it did not work with the radio tuner. I would assume that this would be the same case for the auxiliary input. Not sure about bluetooth streaming from your phone, but I would think that that does go through the OS. Based on this logic, you could set your amp to flat and then install any equalizer that you want, but it would only work with sources within the OS(Pandora, Spotify, downloaded music, etc.)

Something interesting about sound quality to keep in mind... I have one of these in my 2009 c6z non-bose w/ onstar and a similar one in my 2014 Silverado non-bose w/ onstar. Both of my vehicles are using an entirely stock sound system other than the HU. I am very happy with the sound that I get and it has plenty on range to give me the rumble I want on the low end. My business partner and I just put one of these HUs in his 2016 Wrangler and the sound quality was terrible. I am by no means an audiophile and based on your specific questions I am going to assume that you are much more discerning than I am. That said, there was just no low frequency sound in his Jeep. We even swapped our HUs and the problem stayed with the Jeep. We tried running the stock speakers off of the RCA outputs and a 4ch amp but that did not help. We ended up having to install a small subwoofer to get the low range back into his system. I am still not sure what cause all of these issues, but I am inclined to believe that the Jeep had some sort of factory amp that was not turning on to drive the factory woofers.

tl;dr: These sound great in multiple generations of GM vehicles, but may have sound issues in Chrysler products.

as for your questions about default frequencies and slope for the main outputs and sub, I'd try emailing the manufacturer. I purchased all 3 units from carjoying.com and they have been very helpful to me.

Here are some pics I took for you of the factory amplifier settings. And one more to show off the sweet big screen in my truck

If you can find an equalizer app that you are interested in, I'd be happy to download it for you and offer some feedback. I will also be testing out the different sources to see what actually runs through the OS tomorrow.

I am in the same boat as I want one of these head units but without a crossover it's a true deal breaker for me.

I thought about using one of the old school Sony 1/2 din crossovers with one of these Andriod units. I used to have one about 20 years ago and it worked out great!

I think I almost have this sorted. What I need to know is if these units pass full range (20hz-20khz) on the front and rear stereo outputs. If this is possible, I have found equipment to allow for the crossovers, EQ, and time correction that I need.

This is GREAT info. New to the forum... just bought an '07 and the stereo is the first thing I need to change. I'm surprised that there is no aux plug-in on my factory unit. ...I don't want to lug around CD's (and there's no place to put them!). :O)

Surely the line level outputs do.

Welcome! You are not far from me. An Android head unit is certainly a worthwhile upgrade (and it is indeed amazing how many CDs fit on a tiny MicroSD card).

Yes the HU still works. The radio antenna has an adapter and it uses its own GPS antenna

So far it seems nobody has been able to get the factory mic to work successfully. I guess GM doesn't use a standard mic; it's probably amplified and as such doesn't work with most car stereo units.

Someday, when I get around to ordering one of these head units, I'm gonna get something like this to see if I can make the factory mic work, otherwise I'll yank the factory mic out and put a new one in the same place.
