Android Head Unit & Backup Camera Installation
Yep, look at 11:10 into the video for info on the steering wheel set up and at 12:45 some info on setting up the front camera as well. Wished I'd have found this video a day or two ago plus a couple more about the HU! :-)

I just looked at the site.. wow... price went up from 4yrs ago. $25 or so for:
Lifetime license for Android
High-quality offline maps
Free map updates
Free POI and speed camera updates
Real time traffic, of course, takes data and is an additional charge.
There are some other in app purchases available but I'm not sure what they are as I only use it when going out of town.

I contacted pumpkin about specific ISO adapters and they need pictures of the radio plug to give me specific one.
I'm supposing the universal ISO is fine.

For me it looks like a good backup plan app but wouldn't replace Waze and Google tethered to my phone for real trips. Waze is getting really good where I live since there are so many active users providing constantly updated accurate info.
"You will need an special ISO cable for your car if you purchase C0255,or the radio will not work in your car."
HUH? Can't I just use a universal ISO adapter?

Is there a common place people are putting their mics and how are the wires being routed?
Where are people tapping into the rear light circuit for the backup cam? All the back in one of the tail lights?
Basically any advice on where to put the accessories, even the iPod and USB cables and how to discreetly run the wires for everything including front and rear cameras would be good to know about now as I have all the components but want more specific install info.
My installer says to try and install all cameras from the inside due to the thieves and jackasses liking to rip off cameras. I've seen an interior rear camera install example but not a forward one. Any one have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Drill a hole behind the inner brake light, feed the wire through and seal with silicone (or a grommet). Remember to run the RCA wire up through the center console before snapping that back in place.
Thanks. I think I follow this easily enough except could you add just how you routed all the wires in general from the back to the front? I really don't want to tear into anything unnecessarily or reinvent a worse routing path for the wires and I also want a neat and hidden install as much as possible.
Also, I've gotten two different manufacturers double D plastic covers and neither one seem especially suited for cutting up for the oversized front face. Can you tell me make/model you used and can you send any closeups of the final install? I think maybe I'm being too much of a perfectionist here and if I could see a couple more examples of the final installs I might be happy with the surgery I've already done to one of them.
There are a couple of videos here and there that show a few areas of interest in the camera or head unit installs but the majority of the job like how to route the wires from the back camera and the front camera are never shown, optimal place to route and place the microphone, ipad chord, etc are still left out. It'd be awesome to know when there's just to choice but to drill a hole through a panel and where the best place to do so is.
Interestingly enough, though others said places like Best Buy would do the labor, I contacted a couple of places around here and they didn't want anything to do with just the labor of installing this in a vette so I haven't found a convenient option not to end up doing this myself which is why I'm digging deeper for details on neat and clean installs with minimal 'drilling or pulling things apart' to make it happen. ;-)

I don't know, but I like the idea!
Well, we may be in luck. Found a product and install video and it that looks you can add anytime to the vette after you install a new head unit as long as the head unit retains the original on star functionality.

See the first post for the exact part I used and the best closeup I have. They are cheap, so buy two just in case.
That Costar Bluestar module is interesting but why not simply feed the OnStar microphone outputs to the HU inputs and use the app that's already installed?
Moving to the next couple of items. I can't figure out how to get the front camera to operate. It comes up with a caution sign that I can't figure out how to overcome. I can't find any safety type item in a configuration setup that I haven't experimented with and I've put 12 volts in the 'brake in' line to see what does and neither have any affect. There are only two inputs for video that are marked. One is labeled camera and works great standalone with the rear light input 12volt line set high. The other is just the video in that's part of the DVR in lines. Their website and their online pdf never make a mention of this function. Any ideas? I need to find for a general Eonon user forum...

This is why I used a composite video Y (into the rear cam input) and a switch to turn on the front camera; I only use it to safely park, not to DVR my drive, so I didn't want to have to deal with any extra configuration in the device.

I didn't need a switch to get a forward and rear camera to work. There's a shortcut labeled AVIN which I put on the home row of anchored buttons across the bottom and when you select it you automatically get the forward camera in (assuming you hooked it up to Video In line) and when you put the car in reverse it automatically shows the rear camera and then when you take it out of reverse it automatically goes back to the front camera. Also, there's the password protected option that disables the lockout of video while in motion nanny state feature.
I never did get the front camera app that I took a picture of the screen to work. Yes, I tried the parking brake connected to 12v and that didn't change a thing but hindsight says this other way is just as good if not better. The only annoyance now is that neither camera I got has an option to reverse the video with a switch on the camera or by cutting any wires that come with the camera for this reason so the front camera is reversed. None of the built in software image reverse options seem to apply to the AVIN feed. Not an issue when all you're really worried about is just not running into something in front of the car while parking.
getting there...

and here are some still shots. I hadn't actually really finished the tie wrapping and securing the wires through the engine area completely and hadn't cleaned up the car and the area so 'excuse the mess'...
One thing you'll notice is the rear camera is slightly offset and the pictures are of me testing whether I wanted the camera cocked slightly inwards or straight back and I decided to go with straight out, perpendicular to the car's longitudinal axis. You also see how from where it's mounted I can see the towel and just a slight part of the car's bumper to keep things in perspective.
With the firewall penetration, I could not find a firewall bushing anywhere so I made one from a snap bushing that I CA glued in place the used a LOT of ATV sealer from the inside and outside after the wires were routed. I also left a lot of wire slack in the rear of the car and in the engine compartment with the knowledge that these cheap cameras will need to be replaced over time so all the service wire and all the slack you could ever want are there without having to remove the center console and head unit down the road for this maintenance.
