Correct - that newer unit does not have an integrated DVD drive. My unit does, but I have used it only once, when testing everything out during installation. Ripping a disc to removable media should work. If my car did not have Bose and OnStar, then I would have attempted to install the head unit without the RP5-GM11. Best Buy quoted me $100 to install the head unit plus $80 to modify the trim kit.
Does the newer one support 2 camera inputs? For example, can the #12 Video in cable take in a second camera and does it have build in software option to allow the #15 and #12 video feeds to work as a front and back camera and put the parking distance lines out on both feeds?
I'm referring specifically to what I think is the 'latest and greatest' version of this head unit.

That's a great question for the vendor! Parking distance lines are typically overlayed by the camera, and I would expect the headunit to override all functions with the rear camera video feed only when lead #4 REVERSE-IN is energized, so I don't know how the other video feed might be integrated.
So I just picked up my car from the Car Audio shop and had my the Double Din installed. This is what I bought below and from that vendor. Came in really fast

Hoping this shows up under my Christmas Tree. I have shot the wife over the Amazon wishlist about 5 times :-)
In the end it will cost me more this way. I have to buy her diamonds!
Still itching to install myself, but it's been years since I've delved into it.
I saw a review online about the exact unit which is why I purchased it. I also got a crazy good deal on it ($185 shipped). Really hard to pass up. I really love it and it's exactly what I need to enjoy my long drives with the Z.

I don't know about the answer to your question, or what that specific head unit allows.
I do know that I didn't bother trying to connect up two cameras to two inputs on the head unit; I put in a Y so that both cameras connect to the reverse camera input of my HU.
You can see the Y in the background on this thread, which also explains how I power the front camera:
I have a diode on the +12v 'reverse lights' input so that when I activate the front camera, the power doesn't backfeed and activate the rear camera/reverse lights.
Edit: Another thread where I mentioned the setup, which reminded me that I needed/used two diodes, otherwise the front cam would power when the rear is on and they'd interfere:

I love the head unit and it's what I was looking for. Since it's pure Android, I was able to install apps that I've always wanted in my car.
The backup camera is pretty sweet as well. I'm very happy with what I've decided.
Can you explain how you would actually get navigation or Waze to load and run without mirroring google maps running on your cell phone and your cell phone providing the data to the HU? Mirroring the phone on the HU is great sometimes but I know I want the option of not having to have to connect my cell phone to the car to get basic navigation running.

I use Llama (an Android app) to automatically turn on WiFi hotspot when the HU connects via Bluetooth, and then the HU connects to that WiFi. When the HU shuts down, Llama turns off the hotspot and goes back to WiFi.

What is the native nav app that comes with these android HUs and do they come preloaded with up to date US maps and how is the user experience in creating a route and using it? Does it show lane guidance as well as the pioneer or kenwood systems? Suff like that. Is it snappy quick to navigate around the menu system?
I just came back from a good store where I could try all the pioneer and kenwood systems and I wasn't wowed over. The two top kenwood HUs are already setup for two camera inputs but other than that I like the pioneers interface and response times better. But neither were so good that I'm not open to an android system. Neither had the Waze app and that likely would have made a difference if they did.
The head unit can run Google Maps or a navigation app that uses the maps on the included memory card. Post #8 provides an example.
Google Maps was already installed in my HU but I downloaded Waze. I have unlimited Data on my Smart Phone so my HU automatically connects to my HotSpot.

I have unlimited data too but want the system to be able to do navigation without it. Can the stock system do so? Can you send the link to the review you referenced earlier? And a link to the vendor website and any videos on it? Are you installing it yourself or did you find a shop that wouldn't mind installing equipment you bought. TIA

Reason: Found a couple of answers from earlier in the thread
How would you add XM functionality? What XM receiver would work and where would you plug it into these Android HUs? These Android HUs look they are all made at the same place. Is there any version that has the most 'bells and whistles' built in or bundled together? Otherwise they all seem to be undifferentiated.
I realize this is a long thread, but it contains a lot of useful info that is worth reviewing if you're really interested.

My car doesn't have the steering wheel controls. The kit works with the stock Bose speakers, great sound.
OK, spent part of the catching up on researching this and the only real question I have before committing the order is what do I need to get in order to use the steering wheel controls? The install kit above mentions everything I need specifically except for the steering wheel controls. However, is one of the modules in the picture that I can't read that well for the SWI? That'd be sweet. If not, on ebay I found this PAC wiring kit mentioned in post 1 that DOES seem to do all of the above and no doubt adds the steering wheel interface with a twist as the original poster described.

SW1 and SW2 are likely equivalent to KEY1 and KEY2 in which case no interface is required (just use the purple (6) and dark blue (7) wires from the car as explained in Post 1).
