Ken, no hard feelings - this is THE hottest topic of debate on the CF, but we are all entitled to our opinions and respect.
Nope, no hard feelings at all. My only thought was to try and bring something back to the way it was. No trickery, fraud, deception, but rather find parts that belong. I think I will stamp the pad with the correct date and suffix but vin will be mine with a question mark in place of the first number. Then it will be obvious that this is a correct RE-STAMP with my VIN.
I always enjoy reading these threads.. Lots of emotions.. Not being a smart *ss, what makes the "Original Engine" the item that makes the car?? I would think all cars are worth "X" amount??. The big $$ comes from the documentation a car has, or the options/color combinations.. More documents, more value. Same with options or colors. Putting a car back to "Original", to me makes the hobby. Taking a small block car and making it a big block or changing the trim tag, is the "fraud" in the hobby. Original block cars that have had radiators, alternators, interiors, paint and what ever matching (date/part#) part found for it "OK"?? Put in a "Correct" replacement motor, that's "Not OK"??? I Don't understand the double standard??

I know I should leave this alone but this is a thread of opinons. In my opinion, the differance is the serial number. The blocks were stamped with serial numbers that matched the cars. Radiators, alternators, interiors and the like were not. To install a part with the correct date code, there are lots of them that match what the factory installed There is only one block that has the correct serial number. It is either in the car or not. Just my opinion.
Less than one hour EST to 2007.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.
Good point... Then I assume the items on the car that have the "job #" on them would fall in that thinking too. Door panels, and body panels that are marked with the "job #" need to match. I would have issues with any part that was "repo" like jacks, tach tags and glass that are specifically dated for your car. You can have all kinds of parts reproduced and dated and that's "OK"?? With the door panels having the "job # along with the date stamped on it to me, would be another item that one could say "you must have" to be "original".
Are there any other parts that could be marked specifically for "your car"?? I can only think of block, frame, one part of the transmission (manual), door panels, bird cage support as well as few body panels.
