I saw a graph not too long ago that showed us where most US gas comes from. It aint the Arabs. Blame Canada.

Did you read about the CEO that recently retired from Exxon. He walked away with about 93 million dollars in his pocket. I bet he can afford to by his own product.

I read an interesting point on the gas prices (not that I think the fule companies are f'ing us some) but if you cost adjust the price of gas from 1965 and adjust it for inflation, we are paying below the normal amount of inflation for the price of gas. We still are cheaper than most of the world. When I was in the UK in 1999, they were paying about $1.10 p/litre or $4.40 a gallon. We also use the biggest chunk of gas in the world. Now my personal opinion is we need to get off of gas and stick it to the Arab world. If they don't have money they can't buy thier little bombs and that's how we beat 'em! I think GM has the right approach with the E85 vehicles......we screw the oil producing nations and take care of our own farmers at the same time. Beyond that hydrogen cells could really put a nail in their coffin! The hybrids.....losers, unless they can get the price down. For what you have to pay for a hybrid you can buy a hell of a lot of gas. If we could get moving on this solutions quickly, you would see the price of a barrel of oil plummet.
Adjust for inflation or not, the price is absolutely crazy. We have a lot more technology for refining now than we did then so the prices should not have increase as inflation. The CEO of Exon retired with a 400 million dollar package and was getting around 51 million a year plus everything else he could scrounge. Exon made a PROFIT of 36 billion last year, the most ever recorded in this countrys history, Yea I really feel sorry for the oil companys, poor bastards!
We are having it stuck in our kazoos every day by these greedy bastards, who want to blame everything else but their greed. We need to start at home and clean up this sham....... ................LT

Like I said, maybe not the Hondas, but the toyota hybrids work well.

Actually, that was only the first generation hybrids. They had to run the gas engine for AC. The new ones run the AC off the electric motor so that's not an issue anymore.

Battery life is, though. Imagine the resale value of a hybrid that is out of battery warranty... new batteries were $8K last I checked. Maybe less now but still a big chunk of change.

You know, we really control the price of gas. Can you even fathom this country using almost 400 million gallons of gas a day! That's almost 5000 gallons a second. Not only do we bitch and moan, we pay for this fuel every day. The oil companies, on the other hand, depend on us buying this much gas every day. If we used 10 or 20% less, they'd Have to drop the price. Now that doesn't mean you have to give up anything, just conserve a little. Everybody drives like they're in a race. If that lady in the Expedition would just go a little easier on the gas, she could get 16 miles to a gas, instead of 14. It's just supply and demand, and right now, we got a pretty good supply.

Maybe a new standardized fuel will be introduced into the economy in the near future, so oil companies sucking up all they can before a switch...

And start drilling in Alaska. That will keep us going for a decade or so and by that time we should be able to get off our over dependence of oil.

Just curious but how much are they paying per gallon for that stuf? I didnt think it was much cheeper because of the more involved refinment process. Anybody?

1965

3 bedroom brick house $12,000

one gallon of gas 30 cents

2006

3 bedroom brick house 10 x $12,000 = $120,000?

one gallon of gas 10 x 30 cents = $3.00

probably can't buy that house now for $120,000

Looks like we (in America) still fall in the lower third, so something to be thankful for.

Not to try to date anybody but what was an average houshold income in 1965? I am guessing about $6000 annually?

I know here in new york there is over 60 cents per gallon in state tax. Take the cost of gas $3.15 subtract the .60 then subtract the federal tax and gas seems alot more reasonable. So it not just the oil companies dipping into our wallets, it's the government as well.

Well, If I have hurt your sensibilities, I do apologise.
you may recall I tried to make conversation about your country and i even put in smileys. why are you getting so upset ?
I just have a more philosophical opinion about taking this gas price thing in your stride, because face it, we are powerless against it... no matter what we say about conserving.

just enjoy your car Twin_turbo... discussing gas prices are like discussing politics. hopeless.

I wonder what beer, bottle water or mouth wash is by the gallon? then subtract the tax's and take into consideration the super tankers, insurance, shipping half way around the world, refining, gas stations and trucking to gas stations, probably a fair price

I don't put a lot of miles on my Vette. Just a few brief pleasure trips on the weekends. The only thing the higher gas prices mean to me is being more judicous about stomping on the pedal from the stoplight. I have to decide if the clown in the lane next to me is gas-worthy.
