biggest, baddest fights I see in here are on two fronts. A..NCRS versus the hotrodders versus the trailer Queen folks. B..Some folks trying to "low key" flippers.ie, some trying to sell entry level vettes at a few a year without being a sponsor of the site. I say there is room for all and all points of the hobby are important to the overall health of the hobby. just my 2 cents worth.

You hit thre nail on the head! I sometimes have a question but do not ask because I have been shot down by some smart azz. It really does not take much effort to be nice. We are all here for the same purpose and that is not to have our spelling checked.
I have fixed many things on my 81 with the help of this forum, Thanks.

Don't worry or let anyone push you out. There are no stupid questions except the questions never asked. There will always be people here to help you.

I'll respectfully disagree with this statement. When some good intentioned soul takes the time and trouble to post an excellent, lengthy write-up on how to do (insert variable here) and two days later someone asks how to do (insert same variable here), I feel that qualifies as a question.

DB and Batman are my boys! You won't find better people anywhere. CF is a great place to build knowledge, but additionally with some patients, and understanding we can build friendship as well.

See, again, all you have to do is understand that he's new and doesn't understand the search function. That's okay for new members. Everyone was new once and some new members here are new to forums all together.

In that case, I would feel his question was just, and he should not be shunned for it. There should be some direction given, as to how to use the search function properly, or even a combination with some information and direction.

Besides...if you see a repeat question that pisses you off or urges you to make a snide remark about how his question is dumb because someone just went over the subject...then don't reply. Hit the back button, and someone who doesn't mind the question can step in and make the new guy feel welcome.

Respectfully, I stand by the idea that no questions are stupid. If you don't like it for whatever reason, don't get involved.

I still say this is GREAT ENTERTAMENT with a lot of good people and a wealth of great information.
I still think all profiles should be filled out.
Let us face it, the c3 people are just blue collar beer drinking rednecks if you don't like it go buy a c5 or a c6 and hang out there, hehehe!
Or buy a c4 they don't seem to have opinions!!!
Just kidding c4 people.

Assuming:
That everyone has a shop manual answering 95% of everyone's questions.
That the other 5% has been answered on the forum, and using the search function will answer that.
That opinions are unwanted.
That the law of physics is unchanged.

What should the function of the forum be?

Clinics on Titanium seat rails?

Counter point:

The advice, guidance and technical information given here for the vast majority of the time is dead on accurate and cheap, would you not agree? If you were to put a dollar figure on that, if you thought of it as a consulting fee, how much would that be worth ? The new member is asking something from the members, I believe the members have certain rights they are entitled to, and how they choose to take the time to respond is one of them, as long as it's within the rules of the forum.

DB, personally I think you may have gotten more than your fair share of ribbing from some members, but you weren't the only one, Yellow73sb is another guy that was rode pretty hard. But both of you had something in common, you both posted, whether you intended to or not, as though you were an absolute authority, the standard that should be aspired to, the last word in accurate technical advice. The trouble with that is you both had some glaring errors, some flat dangerous, in the advice you offered. I can remember one example you personally gave about a harmonic dampener alignment question. You advised that the dampener could be pressed on until the pulleys lined up, not fully seated and torqued to spec, to solve the alignment mismatch. No Sir, No Sir, No Sir. Answers like this will get you more chiding and harassment than you can shake a stick at, and you know what, on this example I think you deserved some of it. What the point here is Sir, is that although you've offered some good posts, it appears you don't know all that you think you do, and it appears that you don't seem to realize that, and I think it may irritate the collective concience of the forum.

What you're asking for is more respect, but to receive any more respect than what is usually given between strangers, well like that old EF Hutton commercial says, "You have to earn it".

So where I'm going with this counter point is perhaps you're still smarting from the ribbing you got and you're trying to make the forum a kinder, gentler place to visit, a noble motivation. But sometimes a little well placed sarcasm is a good thing, and doesn't compromise diplomacy in the least, and might be the price of admission for some.

All fine points, but none of this is about me. It's about new members. This forum is designed to be free and the whole point is to help people coming in with questions.

Just because the knowledge earned here is top notch and free doesn't mean the members owe us anything. If you have a sarcastic remark for a new member's question, that's fine, so long as it's productive and won't push out new members.

There is no price of admission here, and thinking you need to impose such an idea is against the founding principles of this forum. Sarcasm or otherwise.

I'm not trying to butt heads with you on this but I think too many people here feel owed in some way when they answer a question and if they think they won't get anything back they spit snide remarks and walk away leaving the new member both confused and put off when all they came here for was support and help.

I've never noticed anyone with the attitude of entitlement for the answers they gave, that's new to me. Everyone has gone out of their way to answer questions, even when they didn't feel like answering the question, and not asked anything in return, except to use the search button.

There is an admission price to any community, in high school the freshmen had a price, in college there was admission, in life there is admission fees, I'm in my 50's and still paying admission fees. I'm guessing your in you're 30's, surely you must realize that by now.

And I'm not butting heads, I'm discussing an issue with you, no anger at all.
