Hello to all.
We've started the process. If you remember from a previous theard my grandson and I are going to do a 68 off frame project. Have the hood off, radiator out, front and rear bumpers off, lot of the wiring disconnected, and more. Those terrible body bolts are out. Only the #3 right body bolt put up much off a fight. After reading about the trouble others have had I know how fortunate we were. One thing I did do was after the #2 & #3 bolts broke loose was to spray penetrating oil down the body of the bolt hoping to get some on the threads. I would tighten the bolt back up to help clean the threads and work the oil in the threads. I did this several times on each. I used hand tools so I could "feel" what was happening.
We are concentrating on the front end now. There is a crossmember that is located right under the radiator support Asm. Does this come out now?? I can't remember seeing it in any posted pictures after the body had been removed. It looks like it could stay in for now. For those with a 68 AIM the crossmember is on H280 Item #8 called Member Asm. It bolts across the end of the Extension Asms. that are bolted to the ends of the frame. When it comes time to lift the body what is the "nose" strap hooked to?
Sorry no pictures yet. Was going to try to send pics with this theard but grandson has home work tonight and I am not computer smart. Once he sets it up for me I think I will be able to send on my own. Will try very hard to send tomorrow night.
Thanks
that crossmember can stay for now. There is no nose strap. You need to get corvette lift off straps, and you attach them to the rockers.Thats how you will lift the car.Do not lift by the nose!!!!!

and if the nose is still on, than you might need a lil support there.
I'm geting ready to do my 77. And I have to replace the Piller suport to. windshild frame. (sp) I have every part to do this execpt(sp) the body to chassis kit. My spelling does stink. I have (honest) around 10k in it so far, just needs finished, and it is a chore to do at home.
I havent had a chance to POR-15 the frame yet.
I'm just a do it my self guy I guess.
Thanks for the information. I have a brand new set of the lift straps you mentioned. Sorry I mislead you. I know not to lift with the "nose". I was referring to the placement of the support strap that attaches to the front of the car. One of my fears is that the front clip will break off. Again thanks. I will have a lot of questions for there is a LOT I don't know. cgc

CGC This is how I hooked into the front of the body at the rad support and it worked very well for me, but best to have some one there to help support the front while lifting as well. I managed to get it done with my brothers help and myself this way. The other straps are as have already been mentioned and go to the rocker channels albeit I did have to shorten them for my application.
Great pictures of the frame off for the 68. Noting that you have a rear position mirror, it puts your car past the 11000 to 13000 serial range. However look at the frame, as it has 1969 type gussets on the rear kickup. The earliest I have documented is serial 23186. What is yours, or could you PM me?
As always any 68 owners that have not added to my database please PM me, I keep a list of all 68 cars. I do not have any stolen 68 lists, and do not publish anything netwide. I do answer questions, if you have any relating to the cars that I can...
Where's grayville?If you need any parts,or if I can answer any questions....give me a shout.Nice car,welcome,and welcome to the 68 fraternity!

Good luck with the project. I did a frame off on my 65 years ago and plan on doing another on a 68 I just bought not to long ago. I want to enjoy the car next year and pull the body in 09. Enjoy
