I knew it was inevitable I would restart the upright section of the dash, and as in my previous revisions I like the new one 10x better...I have a cute little drawing I did, I will post it tomorrow and hopefully get some more work done....
Are you going to use the original dash pad? I am getting ready to do pretty much the same project as you and am just looking for some ideas. My interior is completely out and I actually need to order a new dash pad. I plan on make a console and am trying to figure out how to tie it into the dash pad.

No, I plan on making my own from scratch....I would think it would be much harder to use the stock pad and make the console fit to it...
I am thinking I will paint it Cyber Gray like the new vettes, I think it will look good with my currect exterior color and will still look good when I get the exterior repainted eventually...(Not decided on future exterior color yet)
god damnit. I just made a mess of my jeans... time to go clean up...
hi all..I'm wanting to do the dash and console in my '78 as well. That fuzzy crap on the side of the console drives me nuts and the panels have never fit good.I used Hammer finish paint on the console top and gauge cluster and am sure there's better look than that.Hopefully I can get out to where the car is stored and post a pic.....Rick
Ok, here is what I got done....Glassed the cupholders so they flow down into the rest of the console smoothly, glassed the rest of the back section of the console so it meets up right with the carpet behind the seats, also did a little smoothing out of the front section...Tonight I will trim up the rough glassed edges and maybe lay down another layer for strength...
It fits like a glove in the car...this weekend I want to get the newly glassed parts smoothed out with some Duraglass and Rage Gold filler, & maybe shoot it with a high build primer. If I have enough time I will get cracking on the dash
I taped down some aluminum foil at the base of the windshield and layed down some fiberglass to get a mold of it. Trimmed it up after laying down 3 layers. I screwed a piece of wood to the only mounts the original dash had and then I hotglued a brace across. Tomorrow I need to pick up some mdf and cut some rings for my speakers and gauges...
Pulled the dash out and stretched some spandex over it and glued it down with some ca glue. Brushed some resin over it and am just waiting for it to cure up before I go throw a few layers of chop mat down.....I probably should have cut the rings for the speakers and defrost vent and got them in before I stretched the spandex, but I wanted a solid frame and wanted to see how the humps turned out, so the inner child in me won out......
Got 2 layers of mat down, waiting for it to cure.....Plan on cutting/grinding down the bumps from the dowels as seen in 3rd pic and then glassing some patches over the ground down areas....
Busted out the dremel and hit the high spots with the high speed sanding wheel, it made really fast work of them bumps.......Layed 2 layers over the holes I made and hit them with some 36 grit paper once it cured.....
Am I going to recognize this car in August?? New radiator hoses, no rats nest for wires under the hood, a new dash, new counsel, and C-5 seats! Giddy up!
