with that router..... make sure you line up the 2 notches in the pludge casing with the router case......... you can easily slide those 2 together and have them get stuck......... might want to take some 220 sandpaper and ease off the notches/guides so they slide fit a little better.......

Mixed up a batch of Rage Extreme and sanded with 36 grit. Then I mixed a strawberry milkshake(just mixed a few drops of red paint in with rage extreme and fiberglass resin, and a few cc's of resin hardener and a shot of cream hardener) mixed it thouroughly and brushed it on, I mixed just a tad too much hardener in, cause I only had 5-6 minutes of work time before it started setting. I sanded it a touch with 36 grit, and decided to stop and go get some 80 grit for a smoother finish....

Where will you trim the bottom edge that is on the side of the transmission tunnel? It's looking real good. Still waiting to see how it looks in the car.

I will trim it so a few inches of carpet are showing...Might get to that point by this weekend....
Did a little organizing so I could get some work done today. Sanded the milkshake down on both sides and then added some glass so the filler wont crack under the paint later on.
i'm wondering why you fiberglassed - bondoed- then refiberglassed instead of getting all the glass done then smoothening it out with filler. it's looking cool though
While the resin was setting up I played around with the idea of a straight edge on the front of the console. I liked the way it looked and liked the idea of a square edge meeting up with the dash....time will tell if I did the right thing....

My layer of duraglass and filler was getting a little too thick for my liking, so I decided to add two layers of glass to keep it from cracking while flexing in the car. It would really suck if I spent all this time and get it painted to only have it crack 6 months from now...
What did you do with all the wires from your old gauges?
For now they are just bundled up where the speedo and tach used to be. But I will be putting in a painless wiring harness, so everything will eventually come out.
i would stop adding layers.....once you hit the 1/8" mark you should be fine....
sand it all then skim coat any areas and go from there........ i will tend to believe that due to the amount of layers, you will be sanding for a while to get all the waves out.......

I will keep that in mind when I do more filling. What I really should have done was get the right shape before I started adding filler, but then again this is a huge learning leason for me. The pics make it look really wavey, but it is actually pretty smooth and flows well.
i would also cut the excess and try to test fit the unit in the car.... more than likely the tunnel area might have flexed on you and kicked out..... if you have to make adjustments...take a pencil and mark a few cut lines.... then you can cut with a dremel half way through and bend to place...then use a screw and drill it to the tunnel.... then add some fiberglass ...... also figure the carpet thickness and some extra room to put on/off.....

Really good idea, I knew it might flex abit, but I would never have thought to do it that way....Thanks Again!
Dropped the console into the car and took a few pics, fits really good, just need to trim the bottom edge and glass to the backside where it slopes to the rear storage area.
Looking pretty cool. Are you planning to paint the entire console and dash center or are you going to cover some of it with leather etc.? Are you going to leave the cupholders as they are, kind of floating over the tunnel section? Keep the pics coming! Very interesting!
For now I will be painting it, but I can always wrap it in leather once I feel like it/can afford it...I plan on taking the cup holders down and making them come up from the tunnel...
