HEY YOU GUYS Eddie from the Gurnee/Grayslake area here. Been job hunting...so I just noticed this thread. OH YEAH... COUNT ME IN. I'll try to convince Sray454 (Mike) to pull his car out into the sunlight... and come on down with me.
Corvette744, Spedaledn, Sray 454, and me would make a great C-3 caravan. PLEASE keep me informed.
Eddie

I say get the details worked out then we could post a new thread about it?
i have seen 60 or more vipers roll in and out of there and other muscle car clubs as well!!??
as far as busy on weekends i doubt it would be to crowded the weekend after memorial day weekend thats a real busy one!!
maybe post in the new thread that there are many families and children that will be at the park and unsafe (burnouts etc.) will not be acceptible behavior!! not to mention many park police (park rangers and conservation officers) will be present etc.
if you still have trouble with a permit let me know and i will drive down and talk to them in person, im about 45 minutrs from the park. if anyone would like to cruise up to J.C. Whitneys after the get together at the park i can arange for private parking in their back lot that is huge and they have 2 car shows a year there usually 500 plus cars. Im good friends with the plant manager Toby.
P.S. Whitneys dist. center is like 5-6 miles from starved rock park so if all else fails i know we could have a gathering of corvettes there!

The cruise to JC Whitney might be fun. (Could that possibly be a back up location if the park can't happen?) We will just have to be on our best behavior to show them that we aren't a bunch of trouble makers.

I will call Toby this afternoon to verify but unless they are sponsoring another event i dont see an issue and we could just drive through the park and back out if they dont want to let us do it there!!!

You also might want to point out that WE as a group will not tolerate that type of behavior form the people in our group and anyone causing a problem will asked to leave.

Guys, I find it very hard to believe that if we cram 100 cars into a spot where they are already hyper sensitive we won't have a problem. I think we can all agree that drinking and doing burn outs and hitting kids is not the best plan (at least in a state park) but I think that enough of us rumbling around with sidepipes, etc will give the appearance of impropriety even if we aren't doing anything wrong. I think we've all been hassled wrongly before and, based on initial reactions from the DNR, it seems we might be asking for it in this case. On the other hand, I would have thought it was about the coolest thing ever when I was younger to watch this many vettes roll in together...

Just my $.02

I hate to admit it because I really like the state park idea but, you might be right. That leaves us with possibly the lot at JC Whitny. Does anyone have any other ideas? I am sure I could find something around hear but thats in the very north western tip of IL.

The park would be a great spot. Lots of shade trees, lots of parking, Water, sun, boats, girls in bikini's and corvettes. Sounds like the perfect sat afternoon to me.

I'm not trying to disrupt anything here,or with/at the park, but why do we need a permit?I mean if we just show up down by the river early, and ****** up a picnic area by the parking lot.....who can say really say what?????Everyone just be respectful.
There's also,on the other side of the river by the locks, and the museum. We arn't going to be having live bands, beer tents, vendor's trailers, etc.,so WHO.......can say we can't all get together? We have just as much rights as a family meeting from all over the state at the park to roast some weiners, and tell some lies.We are just a larger family!

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but I think the problem comes in because of the water and washing cars that was brought up early in the thread. As much as I love the thought of girls washing cars I could live with or without the washing the cars idea.

Then we do that later in the day at JC Whitney's if Tony can pull that together,or we find some farmers pasture, pay him a few bones, and give him a free wash.... Forgive me....I am just kinda the seats of the pants type of guy,and just make things happen as I go,or.....deal w/it as it comes.Everyone just be on good behavior.I will probably have Mrs.Vettesbydesign there,so I won't be up for any car wash orgies, but will have the X-ray glasses on hand....

That sounds like the best way to go to me now if we can get a time nailed down myself or someone else can put up the new post and set it in stone.
By the way I know the feeling since my wife will be making the voyage with me.

What about instead of a car wash, the girls just wear bikinis and rub our cars with cloth diapers? You know, make them shine?

OK, I'm confused. I've seen dates of 5/24 with 6/7 as a rain date, and a reference to not being Memorial Day weekend. but 5/24 is Memorial Day weekend?

Are we really talking about 5/31 and 6/7 as a rain date?

If we are having issues with Starved Rock I would suggest Cantigny Park in Wheaton as an alternative. It is about 5 minutes north of I-88 at Winfield Rd. No Alcohol but we can bring grills, etc. The grounds are large and have things to do. And I don't think we need any permits or permission, just park together. We might even be able to get them to rope off a section of one of the parking lots

Yes it is May 31st and June 7th as a rain date. That does look like a good alternative also. We need to find out what Corrvette744 comes up with first though. He has been putting time into this and I would hate to see it for nothing.
