Yeah it seems like the silly money comes out on Friday and Sat.

It is not uncommon for someone to bid on their own car. For example, if you have a car that you think is worth $300K and the bids are only $140K it may be worth it to you to buy it at $150K plus the buy and sell commissions of $27K (18%) for a total of $177,000.

I would have to wonder how much someone had in it initially that if they did sell it eventually for their $300K that they would somehow make money.

Usually the more common thing is for a seller to have a shill bidding on the car to drive up the price. I have heard rumors that some shady stuff has happened at BJ but it may just be BS!

I commented early in this thread that bottom line you have to be pretty sure of your stuff to sign up a big bucks car in a no reserve auction in this economy.

Strong money for an A/T. It seems Sat. is the big money day , I wonder how you get your car auctioned on Sat. VS Thursday or Friday. That 69 435 car seems like a steal at 55K compared to an Auto 454 for 50K, Maybe it's just me.. 67 427/ 400 with air and 14 options for 155k

If I were a seller Sat. would be the day I would want . anyone know how they pick which day your car goes??

That wasn't Reggie's ZL-1, it USED to be years ago. It was owned by a collector that also had the Yenko's for auction. Reggie was trying to buy it back!

It appeared that the auctioneers favored cars of either high rollers they know or the charity sales. If their favorite seller did not get the bids they would break the bidding to tout the car again with compelling arguments for bidding it higher. While some poor nobodies got the bum's rush. I also thought the video did not show the cars well. Thanks for the vent. Ed

I watched everyday and after seeing this for myself. I am more of a fan to the Mecum auctions where no matter who or what its an even playing field for the sellers/buyers alike.

I also thought it appeared that they were trying to reach "unspoken" reserves. We'd watch a few cars stall, only for the auctioneer to keep pushing and pushing until it was bumped up another 10-15K and when it would stall again....1,2,3 sold!

Unless I was in the in crowd I would not put a car in this auction. Another thing I did not see this year is the sugar daddy's with their "nieces" there but a lot wilth the old lady. LOL. Times must be really bad. Ed

Maybe they were stopping and stalling at the wrong winning bidder.
Can't have that.

All the Auctioneers have the pre-auction estimate from the seller right in front of them on screens. If the screen says this is a $250K car, and the bidding is stalled at $110K, everyone is working to bid it up! If they didn't they better be chosing a new career path.
