Just laugh and be glad your car doesn't sound like a leaf blower with a hole in the muffler.
I have noticed that kids today are becoming less skilled at conversing and relating to others. They are also getting very wimpy and sedentary. They spend most time alone and primary form of communication is texting, my space or sitting next to each other looking at the TV. I don't really blame them though and try not take the easy route by saying "what's wrong with kids these days." The problem is much larger than they are - it's also the parents and so many societal influences that have distracted these little critters from what's important and meaningful and makes someone a man. There has always been little punks since the beginning of time but more so today because the parents of these kids allow them to disrespect. It's been slipping for several generations now (mine included) and unfortunately don't be getting better anytime soon.
How true. I also have a 69 Mustang and it's the same thing in the Mustang community. The first generation owners (65-73) look down their noses at everyone else. Within the first gen, the 65-66 owners look down on the rest of the first gen cars, the 67-68 cars have finally been accepted as "real Mustangs", the 69-70 models were ignored until recently (despite the fact that they were the Mach 1s and 428 Cobra Jets) and the 71-73 models were considered the red headed children of the vintage Mustang world. Hey, not everyone likes the same things. I once had a really tight race with a Suburu Impreza WRX/sti in my 2000 Z28 Camaro. Afterward the guy with the Sub wanted to talk smack about keeping up with a big bad Detriot V8. All I told him was, after the race is over, he still has to go home in an ugly little Japanese four door sedan with a mail slot in the hood. That shut him up.
Most of the people who play that game would be doing the same thing if they owned any type of car. Just childish people.
So people were making fun of a vintage car, because it had "Pace Car" stickers on it. To me, that is proof of the cars heritage. At least it paced the Indy 500. But then I had to stop my thinking because arent a lot of the Indy/IRL cars now Honda powered?
Anyway, they dont like the stickers, and I dont like the wings. So call it even.
Bruthish said it the way it really is. The Asian & Mexican kids make fun of the American cars; the American kids make fun of the "ricers" (see, we even give their cars a nasty name). So they aren't any worse than we are. Just smile, start it up, and let them ogle at the sound of 'real' cubic inches!

Well said.
The first V8 car I ever owned was a '75 Mustang II with a 302 in it, talk about your bastard child. But, with all of its whopping 165 Hp, it really wasn't that bad of a car. In some ways, I wish I still had it.
You could always look at their car with the oversized rear wing, give them a big hillbilly draw and say "shucks, boy, don't that snow plow go on the front?"
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone...or something like that.
We all go on and on about how lame, stupid etc..etc.. ricers are...why shouldnt they do the same.
In the end you have the Corvette and they do not. i'm sure people have said the same about my car, I've just never overheard them. The rice boys who work at my local jiffy lube actually give me compliments no end when i go in for oil changes...so there are exceptions everywhere i guess.
I never had anybody say anything that I'm aware of but I have sidepipes.
Here on Long Island in NY on Wed. nights during the summer there used to be alot of cars at Nathans in Oceanside. Tuesday is Bike night, Wed is car night. I haven't been there in many years. So one night summer before last my Brother and I decided to cruise to Nathans on a Wed night.
He had his 74 4sd Vet coupe and I was in my 65 4spd Vet convertible with my wife. We get to Nathans, pull in the lot and there had to be a couple of hundred tuners. NO american muscle, vets... NOTHING, all tuners. Looked like a scene from The Fast and Furious movie.
We cruised up & down the aisles looking for any cars remotely like ours. I hear one guy yell out YO YO YO, CHECK THAT SH*T OUT!! THAT **** IS HOT!! Everyone else stared like we had pulled up in a space ship. I actually heard some girl ask what kind of car is that? My wife was getting nervous and my Brother called me on his cell and said let's get outta here. So we pulled out onto Longbeach Rd and let them see what some Detroit V8 power sounded like. It was surreal to say the least.
I have to admit I didn't hear anyone say anything bad though. Maybe they were in shock?
NEVER.
Everyone loves my car. I have a friend who built a 10 second Civic and has the timeslips to prove it. He truly admires and respects my car, even though it is not his thing.
And I respect all hot rods. Civics are the 55 Chevys of yesteryear. Maybe they are not for me, but as long as the kids are pulling wrenches, it's cool.
Most of the haters I experience are behind the wheel of a mini van.
Being 34 years old behind the wheel of a 73 convertible on a nice summer day with the top down sometimes doesn't go over well with other people my age.
Being behind the wheel of a mini van full of screaming kids with the windows rolled up tight, and Barney playing on flip down dvd player in the back is sometimes quite stressful to some people. When you pull up next to them at a traffic light and they see the grin on your face from ear to ear they look over and either give you the or .
I find it's usually 50/50. Sometimes the husband is like wow check it out and the wife is saying or vice versa.
I know this because I myself am a father of three and I once owned a mini van at the age of 25. I promised myself by age 30 I would be behind the wheel of a corvette no matter what.
I also live on LI and go to Nathans , and there are some muscle cars still , but that spot is over. What is not over is Bellmore on friday nite , the BEST place to go . But talk about cliques ! Older vettes , 68 - 72 vettes , new vettes , mustangs , hot rods , GTO's , etc . But if you have trouble , everybody helps . My key broke in the ignition one nite , and the amount of people trying to help was outstanding ! Everybody had an idea , it was great . (Finally ran wire from alt to dizzy , pushed car , popped clutch , I was on my way)
For me it's Toyota Tundras (2 different ones). It's like they have something to prove. Tailgating and almost causing a wreck trying to pass me. One was tailgating me, got into a right turning lane and tried to get between me and a Mustang, while we were stopping at a red light. He turned left about 3 blocks later.I guess he just wanted to say he passed a Corvette.

That's true, no matter where you go around here someone will help.
I'm sure if I would have pulled in and parked that night and if I had a problem the tuners would have tried to help out the old timer, lol
Have you checked out Cedar Beach on a Saturday night?
I went a couple of times during the summer. It's a nice ride down Ocean parkway. Alot of nice cars, a band, food & drink.
