So I'm ready to take my 69 for black paint later this week! I have spent the last couple months getting the body and all the ancillary pieces that need body color ready to go. I have wrapped all the parts to protect them on the trip. Lots of paint stripping, fiber glassing, filling, sanding, and sealing. I can't decide if I use my BB hood or my L88 hood so I have prepped both and will have them both painted. While I could probably do an OK job on the paint, I know that I would get frustrated and my paint job would not be as good as a professional. So I'll be renting a trailer and taking it to a very good friend who owns a good size body shop. He will do only what I ask him to and will keep me advised if something isn't right in their minds.
I used a Southern Coatings epoxy sealer and then Slick Sand to prepare the body as best I could. I don't think it will take him to long to do the car but I doubt I'll get the final assembly before the snow flies here, but I will be ready for spring.
RobRace,
Beautiful Beautiful Job!!!! I just separated the body from the frame on my 69 two weeks ago. There were a few times when I asked myself if it was ever going to look like a car again (first frame off). Seeing your progress just gets me all fired up again. I am in the same boat though. While battling against the elements, I'm trying to get the frame sandblasted and painted so I can go into some of the reassembly process through the winter months. Not lookin good with the weather we're having lately. Looking forward to seeing your final product.
Very nice work. It brings back many memories from my rebuild. My friends and relatives said the same thing about not believing it would ever get finished. Even caught some house painters looking in my garage window and laughing....They're looking like a couple of DA's now!!

Thanks for the compliments, there were times I thought I would never finish, but I made a point of trying to get something done everyday that I was home, even if it was just clean a few parts or add to my many lists of parts I needed to order. When the body got dropped back on it started to look like a car again and that helped the motivation a lot.

Same here, friends and relatives would come by and all they would see is some car parts and a really bad looking 1/2 a car body with all the paint stripped off. Now they come by and ask what happened it looks like a car. My one neighbor came by and I fired up the Big Block so he could here it. I had the air cleaner off and jazzed the carb pretty good a few times and he jumped back from the car. After I shut it off he asked when I was going to put the mufflers on....and I said, well they are already on (Headman Headers, Pypes System with Race Pro Mufflers) . Since then he has come over and said his wife really likes the sound when I start it up, hopefully they will here a lot of it next summer.

The car just took the trip to the paint shop. It's about a 90 mile trip, but will be worth it. Off to paint we go.... Next update it will be back to Black!!!!
Well I got a teaser low quality picture from my buddy's shop that is doing my paint. I should be able to pick it up sometime next week. They have some silver to do on the hood yet, otherwise it is ready to go.
After spending 4+ years rebuilding the neglected wreck, it finally is back to black.
