I echo Old Sarge's comments: glad there are younger fans of these cars to keep the sport moving, hopefully in a direction that remains beneficial for all involved.
I'll be 57 next month but going on 25-30-40; age is relative if your outlook remains fresh and the body isn't saddled with health issues. I consider myself lucky that I can still twist screwdrivers, spin ratchets, and muscle heavy parts to restore these neat, old cars.
Maybe because I was late to the Corvette party and the technology remains a challenge to get right, I still enjoy messing with ideas of "what if?" as well as following the original designers support instructions.
I've heard the stereotype that Corvette owners are all just old men. I'm in my 20's and a proud owner of a Corvette. So how many owners are there that are in their 30's or younger? No disrespect to all the older guys on here, but someones gotta be the future old Corvette owners one of these days
In my thirties here and yes anyone that has all the hair on the head and not grey are definitely a rarity on the ownership list! But I love the older guys because they know more about these cars from working on them a heck of alot longer than some of us have been alive! I haven't had a problem with the older crowd and its great to hear that there are younger people buying into the fun..I hope to be like them someday as I very much enjoy not only owning the car and the waves and the fun chats that I have had with all the fellow owners of these cars. So don't look at the old guys as old..they still have the same fun you do..at least owning the car..not gonna talk about the other stuff!
It only sounds "old" when you say it. I am 52, but you would never know it. I still feel the same as I did when I was 18...minus a few aches and pains from abusing my body in my younger years. I have owned probably more than 20 muscle cars... Mustangs 64 1/2 through 66, 70's GT Torino's, Cougar's Mopar.. Challengers,Roadrunners/Super Bee's, Camaro's R/T's, Z28's etc.. but this is my first Vette.
I keep myself young by practicing what I learned when I was 12... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TAqIkCf6QM
I bought mine when I was 22 and drove it for a few months to discover it was a total basket case although with a good frame..., now I'm 38 and it's getting closer to being finished (still feel 22 btw)

Interesting, especialy in the c3 section. Maybe it is because we can now afford to buy and maintain the cars we loved when we were a tad youunger...maybe in 20 yrs, the now 18 yr olds will be restoring lowered, tinted out, buzzing hondas.
Imagine that....."lowered tinted out buzzing honda forum"
bought my now restored 1968 in 1985.....I was 17. now at 42 I still have it, as well as another 68 and a 69......no end in sight for me.
Any age is fun but with their cost and best use not really for C3's as dd's it does take some assets to both buy and afford to keep them running and looking nice so you'd expect slightly older to own. However, it's great that young people do to. Almost all of us caught the bug when we were young too......heck, I'm 67 and in 2 months I'm taking mine on the VIR road racing track for four sessions totalling 100 minutes....3.27 miles, 7 turns of race road in their Touring Lights once in a lifetime day. That's almost two hours on a road race course, something I dreamed about doing once but until now didn't have enough of a performance car to make it worth while. A once in a lifetime experience and now I do have the car for it and it's prepped and ready. Never too old or too young to have new experiences!
I bought my first vette, a '69 vert, in 1988 when I was 24. Since I am about to turn 47, I'm sure I'm considered "not young", but I was at one time. As you can see from the above, my story is pretty common. So is the "about 40" guy buying his first Corvette because he finally feels financially comfortable enough to spend X dollars on a weekend cruiser. But even better, are the many folks here who have been into these cars since they were new and explain all sorts of stuff to my dumb *** when I'm having problems with my car. There's room for everyone in this hobby, and I don't give a hoot what the "stereotype" of a Corvette owner is.
Summer of 1990, my then-girlfriend, now-wife and I found a little shack in Spring Lake Heights NJ that we rented for $2000 for the whole season. Both in our mid-20s, Friday nights we'd go bombing down the Parkway in my convertible Corvette with the top down heading to our own shore house and NOBODY was cooler than us!
Been part of a Corvette club event lately? Most of the Corvette owners are older. Pretty good reason for that stereotype.
I had a cop pull me over in my '72, and I KNOW he thought it was stolen because of my age. After spending 10 min. with my license and registration his exact quote was, "well.......I guess everything checks out" in a disappointed tone. Then he proceeded to ream me out about how loud the car was, how it has no side mirrors, and that I pulled out in front of him (which was total bs as I watched him from the time I pulled out until the time he pulled me over). Good thing he didn't notice my seat belt was not on
I guarantee he pulled me over thinking he was going to chat for a bit with a guy in his 50's about the car, but when he saw me he thought it was stolen. JERK!
Wow, drove my firs vette, a 65 when I was 17. Bought my first vette, an 81 when I was in the Navy at 23. Got out of vettes for a while and went to Harleys. I'm now 51, and I've had this vette (another 81) for three years now. C3's can easily be DD's in my opinion just some are better at it than others. I enjoy every mile I drive mine, and when it's done, paint is next, in the next year or so, I'll be looking at another. Maybe a midyear coupe or a chrome bumper C3, or even a C6. This time, I don't see ever getting out of them again!!
I got one thing I forgot to post before..the C3 guys are much nicer than the newer cars C5 and up..not sure why but all the times they always talk down to me on how much better their car is than mine..not sure why but just thought I would say thanks to all the C3 guys young and old at heart!
I'm 23 and picked up my 70' last year. I've wanted one ever since I met my childhood best friend and his dad had a 69' vert. Needless to say I'm not getting rid of it anytime soon.
