Kinda funny when I go to car shows.. some of the older guys joke and ask me when my dad is going to be home if he is going to be mad when he sees his car missing
I've heard the stereotype that Corvette owners are all just old men.
I didn't used to be an old geezer, sonny. I got this way from enjoying my Vette for 40 years.
But I get the perception, when seeing bald headed men driving sports cars, that they had a mid-life crisis and just bought a fast ride to make up for their lost youth. I'll wager lots of folks who I pass on the interstate think that of me, too. But my Vette has been a part of all my adult life.
I never heard of the old men stereo type, but the thread in the C6 section with all the guys talking about their Rolex watches speaks to the stereo types I've generally heard about Corvette owners.
I bought mine at 29 and I'll be 30 in two months. Before this however I was F-body guy.
It only sounds "old" when you say it. I am 52, but you would never know it. I still feel the same as I did when I was 18...minus a few aches and pains from abusing my body in my younger years. I have owned probably more than 20 muscle cars... Mustangs 64 1/2 through 66, 70's GT Torino's, Cougar's Mopar.. Challengers,Roadrunners/Super Bee's, Camaro's R/T's, Z28's etc.. but this is my first Vette.
I keep myself young by practicing what I learned when I was 12... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TAqIkCf6QM
Heh.... we must be related.
Same age, avid dirt biker since age 12, big Aerosmith fan,
I got my Vette when I was 18, I saw a 68 or 69 when I was 9 and wanted it immediately. I wound up in a '68 and never looked back. Current pic...

I turned 50 on the 2nd of May but my wife says I still act like I'm 10. I've owned a few Vettes in my 10 years so that makes me the youngest right?????
I can get 10% off at Bob Evans whether I drive my '69 or my '10 Elise. .... The good thing about being [old] is you can drive it like you stole it and no one of any importance seems to care.
I am 27 and bought my first corvette, an original yellow 1980, in November of 2011 (when I was 26).
I tried to purchase my first 1980 yellow when I was 16. I called 3 hours after the sale had been completed. You can't imagine the disappointment. It only took another 10 years to get the opportunity to do so again.
Back in 1984 when the C4 was first introduced Road&Track's Peter Egan did a piece in his "Side Glances" column called "The Corvette Racer" about his observations of SCCA Corvette drivers (He was racing an Austin-Healey Sprite at the time)...this really resonated with me because growing up in Portland, OR I used to go to the SCCA regionals every year, and the A and B Production race (which was mostly Corvettes) at the end of a long day of racing was what we all were waiting for. The field would come into view entering the long sweeping backstretch at PIR, led by a group of 8 or 10 thundering big-blocks, and it was an impressive sight to say the least, especially after sitting through an afternoon of 4- and 6- cylinder little tiddlers...
He observed that (My paraphrase) "Corvette racers all had crew-cuts and wore white nylon jackets with stars and stripes on the back of them, and smoked nonfiltered Camels. Their wives had cattle-ranch tans, also smoked nonfiltered Camels, and wore white nylon jackets with stars and stripes on the back of them. Corvette racers were always named Bart or Chuck or Bob, and their last name was usually Johnson."
I def have heard the Old Stereo Type...but "White" is usually also involved haha.
When I first said I was buying one my friend who is "white"...."said your not 50 and your not white".
This past weekend I had a Cinco de Mayo Party and a guy said he pulled up to the house and saw the car in the garage and said to his girlfriend..."This can't be the house, an Old Guy lives here...possibly an Old White Guy"...lol
A lot of times people don't here stereotypes are because...well...they are the stereotype.
There is a quick way to end the stereotype talk...do a Poll of everyone here...see what happens.
By the way I am 30, Black and 1/4 Mexican(My Better half is half Mexican)
I'm French and moved to Quebec 5 years ago, I should have make this clear beforehand.
OK your excused, as most Canadians know, the French speaking part of Quebec is an entire nation unto itself, in fact most Canadians would like to annex it out of Canada
53 myself bought my first Vette (72 LT-1) when I was 27 and sold it in a few years time, bought the 2nd one (another 72 LT-1) when I was 38. I guess I'm stuck in a rut.
When one of my Vettes is at a car show and some little kid is looking at it showing interest, I always try to go out of my way to allow the kid to get behind the wheel and let his parents snap a photo of him (as long as the kid is reasonably mannered and not a complete out of control "Spock" child), I figure it helps the hobby out and I know one day I will be looking to sell my collection and planting the bug early dosen't hurt.
My childhood friend had an uncle who played for the Oakland Raiders, he had a flared 67 Corvette, I can still remeber the first time I ever laid eyes on that Vette back in the late 60's. One of my neighbors was a sales rep for American racing wheels, I still remeber the pristine 67 GTO he drove and parked in his garage (Toqure Thrust D), also a 66 SS396 Chevelle in our neighborhood jacked up with ladder bars bigAnsen Sprint wheels. I thought the Vette was the coolest of them all
