1973 Corvette Convertible Resto
I've not shot the U-Pol yet, I've been debating whether or not to do that before or after stripping the car down to glass because I don't want to have to worry about getting Aircraft stripper all over the freshly done U-Pol. I also still need to get the windshield out and clean / prep the birdcage before I go too much farther. I did completely strip the outside of the steel floor pan and rocker channels, and paint it with POR-15, it really turned out great. I imagine it will be even better with a coat of U-POL.
Have a good one!
BTW, if you could post up some pics of the bucktails on that spare tire tub I'd like to inspect them...just kidding bro!!

Thanks for the kind compliments... We ARE going to enjoy this ride when it is done, and hope we won't "be afraid" to drive it because we may mess it up...
Your son is going to love the Air Force... It's a lot different than when I came in back in '85, but still a lot of fun... Just have to have good solid goals and know how to prioritize... The Air Force tends to "time bust you" with too many tasks in an attempt to see how you can prioritize... You usually can't do it all... Pick the important ones and do them to the best of your ability...
I spent 6 months on the USS Coronado back in '88 as a young E-4... At first it was a culture shock living aboard a ship, but you get used to it, especially the chow!!! It helps that you know you get to go back to your comfy Air Force base after only 179 days as well... Don't know if I would've made it as a Navy man!!! My hat's off to you guys...

Started prepping for bonding the front bumper... Ground down my patches and then sanded the entire bonding area... There was a small lip around the bumper right where the bumper and car join... I went ahead and sanded it smooth as when I grind this area down to glass it in, it will be gone anyway... Completed this by sanding down the bonding area on the bumper...

I then put test fitted the bumper one last time... Felt it was the perfect time to re-fit the lower valance... I had re-glassed most of the outer mounting holes because of cracks, so I needed to re-fit and drill new bolt holes... In addition, I bought new L brackets that hold the valance to the bumpers, so I riveted them in as well... I will still need to do a little massaging on where the valance attaches to the bumper as a couple of areas need a "little" shaving...

Now, it was time to bond the bumper... Put some tape on each side to help with cleanup... Squirt, place, massage, a little more massaging and the clamps were in place...

Took a short break to cut the grass and then got back at it by shooting the Ceramic Insulation inside the doors... Will let these cure for 72 hours before shooting U-Pol over the two coats of Lizard Skin...

Here is my little seam sander helper (know I should've drank the liquid first, but...)...

Shoulders are killing me... Glad I get to give them a break tomorrow...

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Been trading time between the doors and front clip... Since I don't have any pictures from the front clip, let's talk about the doors... I shaved the door look on the passenger door...

Still need to smooth down the filler... Tass helped and we scuffed the LizardSkin inside the doors in preparation for the U-Pol liner... Arms inside the door are not a good time...

Taped the doors up and got them ready for U-Pol...

Here they are after spraying the U-Pol...

I also used Evercoat 870 to fill-in the seams between the door skins and door frames... That was no easy task, certainly glad that is done... A little more prep on the doors and they should be ready for K-36...

You would've thought that a brand new bumper wouldn't have been so wavy, but I spent a lot of time get that thing straight (or at least half of it)... Also, on this side, I had to build the bumper up a little against the lower fender with glass, 870 and then a skim coat... Probably about an 1/8 inch in total... The other side is flush so should be a little easier...
Here are some pics:

Moving over to the other side tomorrow and hope to get it done this weekend... I also need to put the doors and hatch back on to do the final shaping on the top of the doors before I can shoot primer on them...

Thanks, it truly has been a labor of love... My arms are about to fall off...
Thanks much

The best word for this project of yours, besides INSANE, is METICULOUS. Absolutely priceless piece of automotive art. I am beyond jealous, beyond envious, beyond impressed, I'm stuck somewhere on the other side of awe. I'd love to see it the finished product in person someday, maybe in a "best in show" circle.. in Monteray or Amelia Island.
