Default List of Items to accomplish before I can test fit the front clip!!

Well, it took 6 shims per side on the #4 mounts to bring my door gaps under control at the top of the door/quarter panel... Since I didn't do a good job of recording the number of shims at each mount, don't have a good idea of how close I got the new #4 frame mounts welded to the original locations... Guess I should let it go as the gaps are close enough to massage now and the body is level...

Next big milestone is to test fit the front clip and get it re-attached... I have so many little items to check off that I wanted to make a list to manage these little projects... Seems lately I've been working on several tasks throughout the day without getting anything checked off... Very frustrating...

So here goes the list (if you see anything that needs to be added, let me know), and it is not necessarily in priority order...

1) Paint bumper support and radiator support

2) Clean all old adhesive off of front clip firewall attachments; one filler panel needs some additional fiberglass work to provide a little more structural integrity...

3) Install filler panels (Fusor 127 EZ) on firewall

4) Install March Revolver Serpentine conversion kit (installation of this kit will be much easier before installing supports and front clip--estimated delivery is tonight)...

5) Prep and spray front clip inner fenders with U-Pol Raptor liner (need to let cure for 48 hours before test fitment begins)

6) Install bumper support and radiator support...

7) Test fitting of the front clip can begin...

Hopefully this list will help me tackle the small projects and get them finished... Will see if Tass wants to use the heat gun and remove/clean-up the old adhesive on the front clip and filler panels...

Am I missing anything???

As always, thanks for looking and commenting...

rogman,
this is the first time Ive commented on your project but I have been watching and enjoying. When I saw the above sentence I chuckled and had to comment. That sounds like how so many of my days go both personally and professionally. Sometimes I'll look back on a days work and wonder what in the heck I did all day.

Hang in there. You have a ways to go but you have done soooooooooo much already!

Keep up the good work!

Well, took off a few minutes early to do some prelim steps to getting #1 done above... Needed to seal three holes that Bubba put in the bumper brace and weld a few nuts on the radiator support... Two more nuts welded on the support and I'll be ready to prep them for paint...

Sorry for the fuzzy bottom picture...

Thanks for looking and commenting...

Rogman,

I finally had time to read through your entire post (so far) and I just have to say this...

You are a sick, sick man with a need to put yourself through much mental and physical stress for no reason other than to end up with a beautiful car. You sir, need HELP and lots of it. Were you abused as a child? Why do you feel the need to inflict pain and undue mental anquish on yourself?

Seriously, this is a fantastic project and you've done a great job of documenting it which is a huge help to others. Very impressed with your wife wanting to help out and even more impressed with the fact you two have made it a project to enjoy together.

Keep up the awesome job my friend.... VERY nice.

Adam

p.s. Thank you as well for your service to our country. My brother just retired about 5 years ago from the AF - Chief Master Sergeant. Very proud of him.

Thanks Adam... I hit 27 years of service this month and think I have another 3-4 assignments (6-8 years) left in me... Of course, with all the budget cuts, some of us old guys may be asked to leave early...

Chief Master Sergeant, very nice... Rock star parking for life...

Yep! I had no idea what that rank meant - knew it was a big promotion but when I saw two reserved spots on the base - one for the commanding officer and one for the CMS that's when I knew it was BIG. Had no idea that there were so few of them. He worked his butt off most of his life to get there and deserves it... as I said, I'm very proud of him for his accomplishments.

Sorry for hijacking your project thread -just wanted to say thanks for your service.

Default Update, 5 Mar 12!!

Think I've recovered from the marathon day at Six Flags Magic Mountain this past Saturday!! What a blast...

Starting to check items off the list... Sprayed two coats of POR15 and Black Cote over several parts... The most important for the front clip re-assembly is the radiator support and bumper support (sorry for a couple of these being blurry, I'll get better ones tomorrow)... Forgot what a mess and smell POR leaves behind...

As I worked the March Revolver, Tass finished cleaning the old adhesive off the front clip...

On to the March Revolver Kit... Really wanted to get this finished tonight, but the bed is calling... Will get after it again in the morning... Here are some pictures from start to where I'm at now...

Should get the serpentine kit finished tomorrow... I'll get on the front clip and prep it for U-Pol on the inner fenders/engine compartment... U-Pol might not get sprayed until Weds or Thurs... Have some clean up and minor fiberglass work to tighten up before spraying the liner...

Thanks for looking and commenting...

Default Mid Day Update!!

Ran into a few snags finishing the install on the March Revolver Kit...

First snag, bolts to attach the water pump pulley (and pulley cover) were a 1/4 too short... Not a big deal, call March, 4 bolts on their way (regular mail, really???) and I can still install the pulley, just not the decorative cover...

Second snag, adjustment rod between the alternator and power steer pump is not going together as advertised... Seems like the spacer is too long, even though it is advertised length as in the instructions... Tried to call March again, this time voice mail... Have sent the below pictures to their tech support to see if they can help... I am guessing the space needs to be closer to 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch versus the 1.25 inch they sent me... The picture in the instructions shows a much shorter spacer...

While the March kit was very easy to follow and assemble, it would've saved me a ton of time if "ALL" the bolts, screws, washers, etc were not just dumped into one bag... Separate bags for each step would've saved a ton of time, measuring, etc...

Probably have another update later tonight...

Thanks for looking and commenting...

Default Update, 6 Mar 12

March confirmed I had the correct parts to finish connecting the power steering pump, so that is complete...

After finishing the March install, got back to working on the front clip... Finished cleaning up the old bonding adhesive from where Tass used the heat gun and paint scraper...

There was some damage on the driver's side fender and needed to lay some glass on the inner fenders before spraying the U-Pol liner on the inner fenders...

Will clean these areas up tomorrow and probably go ahead and lay fiberglass on the exterior of the fender, just not finish it up until the front clip is bonded...

As always, thanks for looking and commenting...

This is all amazing. You're doing great work, and I for 1, am certainly thankful that you are documenting this process and doing the work so meticulously.

I know when I dig in to any project in the future, I'll have your post as a guide. Thanks so much.

Keep 'em coming.

Default Update, 8 Mar 12

Installed both serp belts on the March Revolver... You would think that with the price you pay for these kits, that $23 worth of serp belts would be included... Guess they want you to get a local warranty on the belts from Autozone... The manufacturers are "really" looking out for us ;-) (still waiting on the longer bolts to attach the water pump pulley nose cone)

Prepped the under nose braces for paint and put two coats of POR on these... After the POR cures, will tape off and spray Torch Red U-Pol on the bare fiberglass... Everything will be red except the metal pieces (black) and the inner fender wells (black U-Pol)...

Plan for tomorrow is to prep the front clip for the U-Pol liner and spray it in...

Thanks for looking and commenting...
