In Louisiana, I paid $86, one time for my antique class personalized "QKSLVR" license plate. It will never expire...until I sell the car and then I have to turn in the plate.
Here in NJ, my 2011 Silverado 1500 is about $80 a year, as is my wife's 2011 Caddy SRX.
My daughters Cavalier and my 99 Firebird run about $45 each, and the "Historic" tags on my 62 and 81 Corvettes carry a one time fee of $44 (actually it was only $25 when I put them on the 62).
$105.00 for 04 Silverado 2500, $125.00 one time fee for collector plates for the Vette five years ago. Collector plate is good forever with no additional charge, but would cost $125 if I transfered it to another vehicle. And again the plate would stay with the car till I sold it. If I sold the car I would keep the plates for the next car, whenever that is.
Illinois (2012) fees seem to change almost yearly in this state:
$99 for standard passenger car plates/year
$112 for Vanity plates/year
$43 for Antique plates, good for 5 years
Elm
The annual licence sticker here is not based on the year/value of the vehicle. It is a flat-rate of $74.00. Insurance is purchased separately but is mandatory.
We have annual "property tax" in South Carolina. My 1979 Corvette is $14 but my 2007 Corvette was $968(!). The primary reason I will always be hesitant to buy new, is the outrageous ANNUAL "property tax".
I just got my bill in the mail the other day, Fl, West Palm Beach :
2000 Mustang = $58.35
2000 Jeep = $58.35
2011 Honda van=$106.35
1977 Vette = $38.10...................
Tax, and the fact that it is so cold, is a reason I will make FL my residence.
In Maine you pay an excise tax every year and this is on top of your plate, and sales tax. (Sales tax is one time)
Excise tax is based on the MSRP of the vehicle - it doesn't matter that no one pays MSRP, that is what you are taxed on. Year one the rate is .024 or $240 per $10k of MSRP so if you buy a $50,000 Corvette you pay $1,200 and you get to pay this tax EVERY year although at a reduced rate so after 6 years the rate is down to .004 so you would pay $200 plus tag fee every year.
I bought a new Vette a few years ago and between sales tax and registration it was just under $4,500.

Even used can bite. My wife HAD to have a Mercedes. So we bought a 2007 E350 last year for 25k. After Reg and Taxs it was closer to 30k.
My 73 is reg as Antique with Vintage tags so around $100. No tax but still a $20ish fee for something each year.
I'm in Virginia and "re-registered" original 1970 tags with my car. They are essentially "limited use" tags like Antique plates, but are soooo much cooler.
On the $7,000 purchase price, the bulk of my registration fee was sales tax. Re-registration of the 1970 plates, title transfer, and basic registration was $80, I think.
All told, it was a ONE TIME $250 endevour. Never have to pay a penny again.
$24. It doesn't matter if you have a Ferrari or a 'vintage' Corvette [or a Yugo ]. That's the annual charge for a car in Tennessee. And we like it that way!!!
