Craig
thanks for the pictures, they helped.

My 72 is an original 22,600 mile car. (in my picture)

My 71 was a basket case, # match, all there.. some watt. The Vette was painted red in 1978, probably Earl Scribe ($39.99 they paint any car, including the trim, undercarriage , etc.) the paint is like gum , should be brands hatch green. The hood lines are off as is the wiper door gaps, crack in the sugar scoop and wave in the rear fender where a mobile phone was mounted..

I wanted to get the mechanicals 100% before I started paint and body work.

Your Vette came out perfect, you must be proud.

Thanks
Larry

Started work on my garage floor today. Have been meaning to do this for ages.

Went around and ground down any non smooth joints, filled all divets etc as it has been extended and had an inner room built and pulled down over the years

Did a test patch under the fridge to see how the paint process will go. Cleaned concrete, acid washed surface to give a good bite then 3 coats of paint.

Now I just need to wait for a week with a number of warm days in a row so I can take on the rest of the project.

Will probably do it in 2 stages.

Great thread! 40% of the time you spent working on the car must have been involved with documentation.

Thanks, well I just keep the camera handy all the time so I get shots .

It then takes a bit of time to write it all up, but well worth it for two reasons.

1) I tend to forget things as I get older so it helps me if I need to go back and do something again or on another car.

2) Gives back some info and hopefully helps some others in the community. I have learned so much from other peoples threads and comments so I feel I need give my bit back and pass on my experience, both good and bad.

Garage work continued on the weekend.

Removed most movable gear out of the garage including the vette.

Floor was first power washed to remove initial grime then sprayed with degreaser and floor wash and allowed to soak.

Then power washed again.

Then sprayed with acid to etch the surface, then power washed a final time and allowed to dry.

First coat of floor paint went on diluted with mineral turpentine to get it to soak in better

Second coat went on undiluted and third coat the same.

Third coat finished, just needs to dry for a few days.

Good advice!

My car is to the point that the "messy work" is nearly done............

I need to refinish the garage floor (per my darlin' wife)

Always sound advice to follow - when given by the wife :-)

Will be interested to see how robust the finish over time is but as long as it keeps the garage a bit cleaner and removes the dust it has to be worth it.

Hi Craig,
Looking at your pics made me think about Murray Forman in, I believe, NSW.
I see him on occasion at NCRS National meets and always enjoy talking to he and his wife.
So just wondered if he's someone you might happen to know.
Garage looks like a very good place to work on a very nice car!
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan

Yes I met Murray and his wife at the national Corvette Convention in Canberra this year.

Very nice couple and some amazing Vettes between them.

If I recall his wife had a lovely big block C2.

We have had rain on and off since I finished the garage floor.

Default sub woofer

I installed the same sub woofer that you talked about. It is fantastic in the 71. The price was reasonable also.

My friend liked it so much I put one into his 67 in the well. It sounds great also...

I snagged some 71 DARK SADDLE interior parts (71's color) and some light saddle parts. I've started to "dye" / spray paint the parts. they match perfectly.

We had Hurricane Sandy here (2+ years ago) and finally had most of the damage to the house repaired ( insurance pro rated everything due to age..etc..) - yes took that long... a lot of homes are still not repaired.. I was lucky no damage to the shop/garage...
So this winters projects will be moved to the spring.. will be finishing the interior of the house myself .. as insurance money ran out..

Great thread and lots of help

THANKS AGAIN

Glad to hear your recovering from Sandy, can't imagine what an experience like that would be like. Good luck with the rest of the repairs.

Yes the sub is such a perfect fit, like it's made for the storage box, and vinyl paint (dye) lets you match the interior parts together better than original.

I am pleased that my thread has been able to give you some help.
