So vacuum relays....the originals respond much faster and are less likely to cause winking.
However most originals don't hold vacuum as well.
So I have 3 good reproduction units that will hold vacuum great....can open lights 3 hours after car is stopped but they wink.
The fix, as per Dub and others, is to place a restrictor in the large tube at the non return valve. Tank takes a little longer to fill but all works great and no winking.
So I built a bracket somewhat like the original (that I don't have) to mount them properly.
Next was a step i was not looking forward to....fitting the wiper door trim strip.
I followed some instructions I found from DUB where i stretched the clips a bit first then used a piece of acetate under the top side of each clip as I put them on the wiper door.
Then slide trim in over the acetate with some detergent as lubricant.
Went very smoothly....except I had forgotten one end of the door where the hole is for the trim rivet was broken and i had previously repaired it.
So after all this time I could not understand why there was no hole. My memory was triggered when I tried to drill it and I found filler :-)... So a small repair with some JB Weld. Luckily all out of view.
Good work as always Craig. Can I ask you for a picture of the front light wiring harness and where does the fiber optics panel go through a firewall to the dash?

Thanks Primoz.
what part of the harness are you after. I opened mine up and replaced any bad wire and added extra wires for headlight relays etc..
Here is the fiber optic part going through firewall below the main connectors. There is an extra harness I added as well for fans as well.
Thanks Craig! The most bottom picture is the one I was looking for. I totally forgot about the fiber optic part as I thought it is going to be an easy job replacing the front harness. I have a new one at home and when I laied it on the table I noticed that it is going to take a little more to change it!
Dumb question?
What components are operated using a fiber optics system in a 71 versus my 73 which I don’t believe uses any fiber optics?
Is it just the gauge lighting or is there something else?
I’ve read in a few threads about some problems people have had with the fiber optics.
Could it be simply deleted from the system and still have functioning lights?
