Striping Engine Compartment
Hey gang
I have stripped the 70 Vette completely geting it ready fro paint I have removed everything from the engine bay (Engine out for blue printing and ballancing) but I am having issues with the Air tank PITA
my question I have removed the bolts holding it but I realy do not want to remove the clutch rod Is there a better way to get it out?
Any assistance would be appreciated

I've heard rumors that on manual brake cars you can unbolt the master and bend the lines far enough over to remove the tank.
On mine (72 PB) no way of doing that at all. I had removed the booster and the steering was already out so it went out fine.

Its been three years since I did mine I know the vapor canister came out the side vent. I know that I did not remove any of the steering my car is an automatic no clutch rod. The only other thing that might have been off was the master cylinder (PB) I can't remember.

I don't want to be the 'doubting Thomas' here, but I don't see how the tank comes out through the side vent. The charcoal canister... yes, but the vacuum tank????
The dimension of the tank and it's 3 legs is greater than the dimensions of the grill opening, AND, the #1 body mount bracket restricts how much of the vent opening is actually available.
I think pivoting the master cylinder out of the way is the method.

Here is a photo of the mess I started with on day one. Note no wiring harness or vacuum lines are in place. The master cylinder did not have lines running to it (not even a push rod inside for that matter). Anyway pretty sure that I removed the master cylinder which in my case was not a big deal.

The only way you will get the tank out is to remove the power booster and master cylinder. If you take it out do yourself a favor and get the booster rebuilt it will save you the aggravation later and you will get a better engine compartment detail job.

There was no way to get it out from the Side grill Vent locations The Brackets on the vacum tank are to long
