Where did you buy the Hedmann Headers, and what is the I.D. number. I have a 76 Vette with a ZZ4(355 hp & 405 torque)and would like to install headers. I was told Hedmann was not longer making headers.
That's what I hear too. Looking at the Eckler's site, they say they're discontinued:
Summit has them as "N/A", but no price either, nothing on Ebay either nor Amazon, nor anywhere!
I put in the PN (68309) and even called a half dozen places, that still had them on their website, but no go.
I think you'll have to wait for the pair on Ebay and do a 'saved search', so you'll know, when a pair hits the 'bay.
Is the factory insulated blanket installed on the UNDERNEATH area between your transmission and trans tunnel? Is the factory foam strip that goes between the bell housing and the firewall in place?
You really have to go back and read the thread. We've covered all this and yes, many of the guys who have this exact set up, STILL have heat problems. Headers makes it worse. Mine is not coming from the tranny tunnel or the bell housing, but from the steering column support on the floor, that heats up to nearly 150 degrees.
Also, some cars that do have this, have no problems, so it's been a really tough deal to diagnose.
I just completed this project, (one of many) a couple of months ago. I insulated the transmission tunnel, (under the tunnel) not inside the cabin, there were several other small things I did also.
The results........... NO MORE HEAT! Everything stays at ambient. No more hot shifter and or console, no more hot air coming out of the vents. Just completed a 2 hour drive one way, a couple of weeks ago and everything stayed nice and cool.
BTW, one of the other project / up-grades was to replace the entire exhaust system with long-tube headers and pipes fabricated at a local shop.

Ain't that nice! No more cooking! I can hardly wait to get mine done, sheesh!

Hey, while I was looking for header wrap (which will be delivered today), I ran across this stuff from the same company, sounds pretty good - what do ya think?

What I like about it, is that you can mount it to the outside of the firewall, versus most of the products, which are mounted on the inside.
I got my headers yesterday and they are beautiful! Too bad, I'll be wrapping them, before I put them on. My old ones were ceramic coated too, with little difference in the heat coming through the firewall.
I may just order the big kit, to cover the trans tunnel as well. We're going to be starting on it, next week.

yeah my new headers, sitting in our "sitting" room, sure are perdy and like you I hate to wrap them but I hate the oppressive heat in the cabin more!
I too like the idea of applying it on the outside/underside. I already have a heat/sound barrier under the carpet that I'm sure does hold a little of the heat out but is just not enough...

Yep, me too! Gawd... I hope this cures this, once and for all and I can report on this. I'd love to see your input too. You might have yours on the car before me! I've got the dash apart, trying to figure out the culprit of the electrical mishap that I had Sunday.
Also, have to get the whole exhaust system redone too. It's all brand new, including the Flowmasters, but it's routed by idiots! I'd also like to put in a removable "H" pipe across it as well, as that adds to the performance too.

It may be a while before I get the new headers on. I bought all new exhaust, new steering box, factory tunnel heat shield and a few other small things to put on when I did my tranny change, but then we all know what happen with my new tranny, so I'm not sure exactly when I will be able to swap things out - I hope before summer though.
Sorry to hear about your wire issue, man that scares the hell out of me
Well it's that time of year again, the dreaded foot roaster is going to once again become an issue. As I said in the post above I haven't been able to install my new wrapped headers along with exhaust, maybe later this summer I will have it installed.
I did however just ordered some "zero clearance heat shield" and have high hopes that it will at least help with keeping the heat down. The company I bought it from is not a forum sponsor so I won't post the link but if anyone is interested send me a PM and I'll give you the link.
Looks like I need to get off my can and on the stick to get the underneath and part of the firewall cleaned so I can stick the heat shield on.
Will report back when I'm done, should be a couple of weeks

I've got to do the same thing! I drove it in 98 degree weather the other day and it was a rolling Toaster Oven, I swear to God. I baked like a Tater Tot in my Corvette! The headers are sitting there, the wrap is in the box, along with the Remflex gaskets. I need to get off my can as well and get the headers installed!

Wrapping the headers was a pain in the can but they are done. I will probably wrap the muffler pipe as well just for a little extra insulation. I am very interested in seeing how well this zero clearance heat shield will work. For $100 I hope it does something positive!
We haven't gotten over about 95* here yet and I only drove home from work that day, takes about 30 - 35 minutes so there wasn't a great deal of heat soak but I think my Dewitts radiator has helped a bit there too, well that's what I'm telling myself after spending the money on that
Done! I wrapped the block huggers with the DEI (Design Engineering) Titanium Exhaust Wrap and I'm happy with how they came out! The steel bands that I purchased, just sucked. You're way better off, using wire (not hangar wire) as you can get the wire, very very tight.
A helpful note about wrapping with the Ti wrap. It is soft and flexible. No need to soak or moisten it. You don't have to wire it at the beginning. What you do, is pull the first layer over the end, really hard and then after the third or fourth wrap, the end you started with, will hold fast. You can also twist the wrap like a motorcycle throttle to tighten it up as well.
It took a few redo's, but it came out nice. BTW, buying a 100 feet was worth it! It took four feet for each end tube! And it took over seven feet to do the center pair!!! And that's for each side! I'm glad to have leftover, as I'm going to wrap the entire exhaust pipe, coming from the bottom of the collector, as far as it will go!
Looks great, good job and yeah the steel bands do suck, you can't get them tight and as big of a pain as it was to wrap the headers I'd hate for them to come unwrapped, especially after I get them on the car

Yep, that was my fear too! I'm pleased with the block huggers, as there is only going to be one single exhaust pipe running down and under, versus a whole quad of long hot header tubes. I'm looking forward to installing them this week!

They look !
My experimental vehicle: Trans-tunnel on my '34 street truck......NO interior heat for 5 years.......(the firewall is covered also--inside too)

I have some under-body self adhesive coming shortly, will be doing the firewall and floor pan. Will also do the trans tunnel once (or if I can ever get it), my 5 speed.
