Thank you, kindly for the kudos. Some of what we did here (all of us, have tried different things and got differerent results). Some worked, some didn't, but ya gotta try! The last thing I wanted to do, was wrap the headers and now, not only do I have new headers, they're wrapped too!

Yeah same here, bought brand new ceramic coated headers only to cover them up with header wrap oh well, if it helps to keep the cockpit temps down then so be it!

From a rookie perspective....I HATE WRAP....(did I say that already)....

and I admire the members who refuse to give in to "wrap" (similar to the way I rode my Harley for 30 years in Loo-z-anna' rains storms because I REFUSED to wear a ugly-@$$ rain-suit! ) Then, one summer day the clouds started building and the Harley store near me said................."Hey you--raincoats for sale with leather leg patches"....I arrived at my destination D-R-Y.

And another thing....I would NEVER alter a stock vehicle.....some of us are destined to keep our cars original---and that's how it should be.... but, others of us are destined to corre.....errrrrrrrr......IMPROVE on the things that G.M. did those centur........errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....dec ades ago!

As they said in the Arrrrrrmeee back in '70----"Smoke 'em if you got 'em"......After arriving in Nam, that saying took on two entirely different meanings (referring to Cannibis-Coyoteus and Machine guns).....

but......I digress!

"Swetty-mizzrerable feet--wrap 'em if you got 'em"

I am glad to see this thread resurrected again. I was so hoping the vented hood would be the magic bullet...

I haven't done anything new with this since blocking off the plenum. I have been distracted with my other hobbies.

I am still watching with great interest.

I'm hoping I can have at least some of my under-body heat insulation on this weekend, need to do lot's of cleaning to ensure it sticks...

The vented hood isn't the 'magic bullet', but I'm quite pleased with how it gets rid of the underhood heat, when the car is sitting still in traffic or after it's shutoff. Just the other day, I was sitting in it in the parking lot, finishing a cell phone conversation and I could clearly see the heat waves coming out of both hood grills! So it does work in that fashion, though, not in the heat extraction out of the engine compartment during movement. I think the C7 has that nailed!

I'm still happy with them and I still like the appearance, as well.

received my "zero clearance" heat insultation yesterday afternoon, I managed to get the driver side floor pan and part way up the firewall on, man what a steep learning curve with this stuff The self adhesive is VERY sticky so I learned to do a relatively small section at a time which made it much easier to deal with. I will attempt to get the passenger side tonight but I really haven't started cleaning that so we'll see how that goes. I will have to wait to do the tunnel when I pull the tranny for the swap. Sorry no pictures or results.

I imagine, that goes on the outside... Right over the undercoating and with how you described the adhesive, I'd bet it stuck anyways, right?

There really was no undercoating on the floor pans, the firewall had some 40 years of crude on it so I did have to clean that off with degrease and then wiped it all down with thinner three or four times to ensure it stuck but yeah that stuff is sticky as hell. It's very easy to cut with tin snips but working with it around wires and what not was a bear, it seemed like it was a magnet, you get it close to a surface and it wanted to attach and not let go I don't think there will be any issues with it coming off at speed. I did seal up the seams with aluminum tape too.

Airborne, I don't know if you've given this any thought yet, but I'm going to have an O2 sensor bung welded to the exhaust pipe, right underneath the header. This is going to be for a future O2 sensor install and most 18mm x 1.5 bungs, come with a plug, so you don't have an open hole, but yet, it will be ready when you are.

Innovate Motorsports sells a generic O2 sensor kit, including a gauge that will instantly tell you what your A/F ratio, or Air-Fuel ratio is and I think I'd like to have this option, to tune my car, for optimal performance at all RPM levels, including idle. It's the only way, to really know, short of pulling plugs and 'seat of the pants' interpretations.

To really clean the underneath I got the best results w/ Professional Strength "Goof off"- about $20gallon at Lowes/Homedepot.

I used some really good scissors to cut the material.

Here's the final result- I use the 3m 3340 Foil tape-on the seams AND the edges. To remove the logo off the tape- the Goof Off worked great.

2 x 4 wood was just there for mock up...

I carbon fiber wrapped the heat shields- really just for looks...

Next step is to spray the interior w/ Lizard Skin.

Yes I have thought about that, I still have plenty of time to make up my mind since my tranny swap isn't in the near future. How much does it cost to get a bung welded in? can't be too much I would guess...

Was able to finish up installing the Zero Clearance heat shield on the drivers side yesterday after work, I was even able to get some installed into the tunnel about 6" up and maybe 3/4 of the way back. I also did some cleaning/prep on the passenger side - F22, I was wrong (yeah I know I'm surprised about that too ), there is undercoating sprayed on but there wasn't very much on the driver side so I thought it was just years of grease/oil sludge but many they went to town on the passenger side

So I took it for a ride to see how all my work cleaning and installing the heat barrier. First impression is WOW this stuff really deadens the sound, it's really quiet with just the driver side and part of the tunnel done. I took temp readings of the foot wells before I took off on my ride, the temp was 88*, ambient temps were in low 90's. my ride was about 40 minutes, after the ride I took temp readings again in the same areas, the temps were 104*. This is an improvement of about 21* from last fall when I took readings in about the same weather conditions so I'd have to say that this stuff is well worth installing

I'm sure that when I'm able to install the full tunnel and get the passenger side done (passenger side should be this weekend), that the temps will come down a bit more as well. I know that when the ambient temps here get upwards of 110-115 then the foot well will also rise but this will certainly be much more comfortable than it was last summer!

Good deal! 20 degrees is a lot and as mentioned far back, when you can get your footwell to only running at 100 degrees, on a hot day, you're doing good! Finally, is this with the new headers installed yet?

It looks great!

For those who want to upgrade from tape....there is a special table-top "mig welder" that can be set low enough to weld thin aluminum foil kitchen wrap pieces together!

How cool would that be?!?!?!

Nope, the headers are still sitting waiting for the big tranny/exhaust and steering box install, that will be a while before that's going to happen.

That's definitely a 'hitch your pants up and think about it' kind of job! 104 isn't bad at all, but I'd like to hear your thoughts when you've gone out over an hour. Sometimes it comes on early, sometimes, later. Still glad that we're working on eliminating or at least minimizing the 'Toaster Oven' C3 experience!

A 20* drop is great! If you have A/C, using the floor vent would give you.........

I bought a heat-sensing gun and can't wait to do what you are doing to the underside/firewall of the car/post my results.

Just with the interior changes, the steering column was at 115* on a 90* ambient day yesterday (I didn't expect any chges in temp. there/haven't made any engine bay changes yet)...and the floorboard area on the driver's side was 100*F...It's a start!

Yeah I knew 40 minutes wasn't really long enough to get some good heat soak but figured it may be a good indication of where this heat shield was headed. while I don't think it's the be all end all of the C3 toaster oven it is a step in the right direction and this along with wrapping the headers (as well as muffler pipe to at least past the seating area), then this monster may be somewhat under control.
