Thanks A.T.
I tried to have the car drive able to bring it to the painter, but it didn't happen when the Ignition module failed causing a carb backfire so bad that it knocked my cap off my head......seems the intake was loaded with because of the no-spark condition......and the new ign. parts lit the fuel with NO problem!
Anyhow......rare as it may be.....a serious ccarb backfire can bend the float arms causing the float-adjusting-screw to become useless which leads to a literal fountain of fuel squirting out the nozzles of the 4 barrel.
I remove both bowls on the Holley 600 cfm.....and straightened the float arms. BUT.....the needles were also sticking badly from a white powdery substance and NOT closing even though the float adjustment tube was screwed all the way closed/I could still blow air into the bowls.
I installed a new metal cannister filter between the tank and the electric fuel pump/added a mini pressure gauge to the adjustable fuel pressure regulator so I wouldn't have to check the sytem with my fuel pressure kit.
I will buy a new needle/gasket kit for the carb since it is disassembled.
Pics coming in 5 minutes...…….
Now the needles work freely when the floats are set correctly and when the floats are lifted up and down with my finger the needle no longer stick. I will still get a needle rebuild kit though

Nice work on your steering column flange.
BUT..if I may...just to let you and others know who may not know about this. Using anti-seize on bolts DOES effect how much torque you can apply on them versus if they were dry.
Using anti-seize on bolts and attempting to torque a bolt to specs CAN cause the threads to be pulled right of the bolt or whatever it is being threaded into. Which is why...often times you will see that the lugs nuts for your wheels are to be installed DRY.
Just did not want you to be working on something and have happen to you like what happened to me when I stripped the threads off of bolts while using anti-seize and trying to torque the bolt to GM specs.
And what I just mentioned about anti-seize is not my opinion..it is a fact. Because using it can cause the torque value to be reduced 25% to as much as 40%.

That's true about antiseize Dub.
I put self-locking nuts on the 2 bolts when I reassemble the rag-joint just to keep from crushing the rubberized cloth and to prevent the nuts from working aloose. I also (not shown) put a new lock washer on the splined coupler through-bolt so I wouldn't over-torque it because of the antiseize.

While the bowls are off I will unscrew it and make sure it's ok (I have a spare) I'm still hoping/hopping to get the car to the painter

You sound like me trying to get my house on the market! My realtor gave me a long list of to do's so the house sells quickly and at a descent price, I'm going broke with the list she gave me and am damn tired of painting, so it better sell quick

Just trying to pass along information so it did not mess you up later in case you were not aware of the properties of anti-seize.

DG - I came across your thread 1-2 years ago when I needed to replace my body mounts on my '74. I followed it for some time after that. Now I've come back to it based on the fiberglass work you've done.
Last year I picked up my own "basket case" '69 which is similar to yours - fiberglass help, Bubba, etc... - but hey, it has a solid birdcage and I've always wanted a chrome bumper C3. I've now caught up completely over the past week with every single post I've missed and you've motivated me to get back to my own project. First step is to insulate the garage for the upcoming winter and then crack at it.
Cheers and thanks for all the motivation!

NJS...…...thanks! It's good to hear you are going to have a place away from the winter weather to work on your car.
I've really been struggling with the "Nam PTSD" this year and haven't been able to work on the car for lack of concentration.
I still haven't brought the car to the painter to have the rear half painted

Hey Tony. Did you see this thread? https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...886-hello.html. He is in your neck of the woods (bayou?) and looks like a second set of eyes might help with some creative glass work. And mebbe looking somebody else's car over and lending a hand might start giving you a push back to the land of the living.

Hope we see you get your mojo back !
Maybe we both need some time in da wind !!

Wow DG , I was hoping you were working on it and maybe just taking a break from posting. My schedule has been so crazy since I got the brakes on it that I haven't been able to do anything except by parts until yesterday. All I did yesterday was clean in my shop and charge the battery and start it .
