Good stuff DG. I like your fab work. When I put my shift in I totally forgot about the rubber boot that mounts under it to keep fumes out. It got lost in all the moves so I ordered a new one and just put it in. Do you have room for the boot in your design?

I'm going to do what GM should have done (I understand they wanted interchangeable shifter/A.T. vs. 4 speed).
I will fab a "cup" that I can bond under the shifter opening to keep heat and water out of the GM shifter mechanism
and also insulate the new fiberglass repair top and bottom with Reflectix HVAC Insulation.
(I was able to reduce firewall heat of 150*Friday down to 95*Friday by making similar repairs)
I'm hoping to finish the Home-Work so I can begin applying fiberglass mat over the aluminum patch panel...then pop out the panel/bond the fabled fiberglass cup to the underside of the fiberglass repair.
Then I won't need rubber boots to seal the area since the repair hole will be very small under the shifter .
That is what makes this hobby so fun. Sounds like a perfect plan!

Derek...True Date. It's almost like I forget the thinking process after 8 months of dealing with the devil. I have to re-learn how to think thru problems, when I normally I get a mental image of what I want to do when the PTSD hides for a while.
0The landscape lights are finished...We don't need no Stinking pics
while I was putting away my tools I accidently opened a can of Resin...spilled some Activater into it and put 3 layer's of cloth along with 5 layers of mat over the patch panel on the tunnel.
Once it is thoroughly hardened I will use the Drexel to cut the edges aloose/unscrew the aluminum panel and remove it for trimming..........
