Looking at your photos, I couldn't help but notice the plug wires laying right on the exhaust manifold.
assuming this isn't the final assembly setup?
Thanks for reminding me....no,not final-I have much work to do in the engine bay
I saw that too and didn't realize what I had done (PTSD affects my reasoning when it flares up).
The previous owner had the "log" style exhaust manifolds which lay much closer to the heads. The wires had plenty of clearance with them.
When I recently installed the ramhorn manifolds, that must have caused the problem with the wires (it's also time for a new/better longer set of wires).
I hope you have a cheap donor car ready to use, and are getting the mutant for next to nothing. There are an awful lot of parts involved in this, and a lot of time. Why would you want to do this instead of buying a car that is already correct? I hope it isn't to save money...
Unfortunately this is SO TRUE. If you are doing it for personal experience & customization it is/will be Amazing. I also know that you can buy that car restored for about 40% cheaper. Plus you will have more time for "Honey Do's". (YIKES). I can tell you from personal experience that putting your own blood in the game is Quite rewarding.
Thank you and ALL the veterans for what you have given to this country.
My hero, my grandpa was in Iwo Jima (marine). He lied about his age, was only 17, to join.
He had the same experience you describe at night, except he would physically grab my grandmother. They had to sleep in separate rooms.
Keep sharing and talking. I CANT BEGIN to comprehend what veterans have to deal with, but can be compassionate and supportive. 🫶🏻 You are appreciated more than you know!
Back to the car interior..............I began installing the driver-side gauges...then fizzled out.
Fingerprints on my nice black dye and on the gauge lenses......
I'll replace the shiny dash screws with black-out screws.......

Half the battle is getting the cables hooked up with your skin intact! Looks great from here.

You are correct about cables and skin....
that's why after reading all the problems with reassembling dash, I bought speedo and tach cables 12" longer than stock. I also added 12" to every gauge wire. (If the car had been mostly original I wouldn't have modified the wiring)
Yep...another Forum member came up with the Extension/Quik-Disconnect idea
Now...if I can drag myself to the garage tomorrow I will reinstall the gauge panel & passenger panel since the alarm system is on the passenger's side.....
Quick disconnects come in handy sometimes. Repo dash tachometers for 67 Chevelle's never seem to last more than 5-6 years or so. After struggling the 2nd time getting another wired in, put in a disconnect. Made installing the 3rd & 4th tachs SO much easier.
I'm making an attempt to reinstall the center gauges. Of course one of the new bulbs fell into the abyss while I was plugging the light bulb quik-disconnect harness into the back of the gauges. Time for the mechanical fingers.....It grabbed the bulb on the third try.......
Getting the wiring ready to tuck behind the cluster.......(Good Old PTSD) > It took only ONE hour to find the dash harness Quik Disconnect that supplies voltage to the cluster ...I had tucked it "out of the way" last summer when I was running the alarm harness ....
More pics of the installed cluster after I chew a few Advil and they kick in.
Just Damn Glad to see that You are working Again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill
Bill, Thanks! I'm fighting it (PTSD) all the way...doing everything twice 3 times.
I managed to reinstall the radio on the cluster. Now I get to search for the ***** for the radio and the clock.
Handprints on EVERYTHING ....but it's reinstalled.....Where did I see that Wiper ****? I also need to set the center vent in the bezel slot....
It looks like it is coming together nicely.
Good work Tony!
Thanks OCB....if all the smudges won't come off the black panels I'll take a cottonball dipped in leather dye and smooth out the panels.
I HAVE-TO make one of those plywood platforms to lay on the floorboard to make it flat.
My back/my front/my sides are aching from two days of working out bugs on the reinstallation.
Working on the engine bay will be a pleasure after finishing the dastardly dash reassembly..
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
