Side tracks are good. Keeps the cobwebs from clogging up the brain. All good thing happen with time and that S & S engine looks real good. Nice!
Will do and thanks! It's been 30 days with only one PTSD episode, so I'm trying to get a good start on all the home repairs and vehicle repairs.
As for the S&S engine....there was a controversy years ago about the dependability of those engines. My engine was broken-in according to S&S instructions and has been a powerful/roaring powerplant ever since.
I upgraded from cast aluminum to chrome parts for the looks and for the ease of keeping the engine clean. If I can get the Vette engine to look 1/4 as good I will be satisfied!

Gunner, pack up everything you need and move into the garage!
I'm with Calo... My wife says that if I spent as much time on my car as I do surfing around the forum that it would be done by now! She's probably right!!!

The lengthened wiring harness and oil pressure tubing makes pulling the gauges an easy job.......
May as well get the steering out of the way.......
Now to work on the actual problem.....a stripped odometer drive gear....
The stripped gear/shaft is in the rear of the housing--upper right corner.......the new gear is laying to the right of the housing in the pic.........
The main shaft worm gear was burred so I had to remove it from the housing and file the burr off so the new drive shaft would turn smoothly.......(Pic is before filing the wide burr off the edge of the gear).........
1.5 hours later......it's turning smoothly and the odometer/trip meter is registering again.......
Back to the garage to lengthen the speedo/tach/light/ignition wiring harnesses and install the Alarm/Remote Start module!

Doorgunner, you've done more in one evening than I think I could get done in a week. I'm not near adventurous enough to dive into the guts of an odometer, either.

Keep up the great work.
Thanks Kris T........the PTSD is still giving me a break....so I'm tying up as many loose ends as possible.

Hey Doorgunner, I remember suggesting a few pages ago to put a quick disconnect into your center cluster harness so you could remove it easier in the future, but couldn't find the thread. Well, I found it! Have a look at post #12.

That's a sharp-looking wiring-job! Thanks for reminding me---I just received a pack of quick-disconnects for my motorcycle---I'll "borrow" one for the Vette dash gauges.

Nice work DG, all of what you just did Iam not looking forward too. Working in tight quarters wiring behind the dash etc. I like the quick disconnect for the gauges. Also extending the harness to work easier. Very nice.

R.......that is a pic that Kris T sent me to copy from.....I already lengthened the dash gauge wires, but a resto-mod disconnect will guarantee that I won't need to pull the gauges again...LOL!

Let me know what mileage you start with I'm always looking for new numbers to play.

55,279 is when the odometer stripped a gear.....according to the wear on the original rotors (0.004") and original brake pads on the rear rotors it's probably around 60-65,000 miles on the car/it has been broken-parked most of it's life----different engine, different transmission, 3 owners plus me---I've had it a year and a half---I could see it sitting for 10-15 years at a time with major mechanical problems.
Now as for my mileage: 365 x 65 x 12= 284,700 x 1.5= 427,050 + 48495= 475545 x 118= 56,114,310............give or take 3 miles
Feel free to use any combination of numbers.
I have to visit my V.A, Shrink now....will (probably) be back this afternoon to do MORE DASH WORK.

Thanks Men! I could finish all the remaining repairs/replacements in a weeks time but the PTSD doesn't let that happen
After the convertible top install is complete I want to replace the '76 tail light panel/clip with the used '69 clip that I found last year.....
I've never done body work before....so this should be fun making the car look like the '68 that it was originally.
The tail light panel is correct but the exhaust panel you have is for a '70-up.
The '68 will have the back-up lamps and a different shaped opening for the tail pipes. Half cut into the panel and the other half into the fender.
Like this.
You are doing a great job on this, hope to see it done soon.

You were reading my mind.....I was wondering where the backup light openings needed to be....now I know!

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
