Pretty creative DG. Once complete you will be able to let people know which way you want to go when driving.

I used my Dremel motor tool to drill the holes from the INSIDE of the grill opening, through the bracket holes. It made things a lot easier. Lou.

Good luck
I will have to fiberglass all the cut edges for support/to prevent cracking/to make the edges look better.

It's worse than that.......once the grill assembly is set correctly and the opening is fiberglassed.....I GET TO INSTALL THE BUMPER BRACKETS AND THE CHROME BUMPER THAT'S HANGING ON THE PEGBOARD!

Thanks....I've been reading modification threads for the last year and finally have the courage to give it a try. Members are giving me some great advice about making the process as simple as possible (good news for my PTSD brain).

So far..............pre-modification to present progress..........

I'll try to rough in the passenger-side grill and the center grill tomorrow.....the 2 chrome lower trim pieces should be here.

Not yet/maybe tomorrow......I've been concentrating on the grill area. RVZIO sent me all the pics that I need to re-do the fiberglass opening.

Thanks Men!

Well............late night/can't sleep (PTSD)...........

I found a lower valence on sale.....it will save a lot of time....I won't have to rebuild the '76 lower valence to imitate the '68 design!

I took the car for a 40 mile test drive today!

NO spit/NO sputter/NO popping/NO backfiring......it's running like a scalded ape (again).

I will have to install an adjustable modulator on the A/T to change the shift points.......and adjust the floats since the engine is running rich.

Thanks Paul.....it was a battle getting the distributor de-bugged so that I could connect it to manifold vacuum without causing the engine to die.

Then....I yanked the Edelbrock 5 times in one year to try and salvage it.

Finally....the 1970 engine runs even better than the low compression SBC that is in my '34 street truck with the identical Holley carb.

That's some great news about your car finally running good. A little tweaking like you mentioned and you'll be off to the races!

I adjusted the float level and decreased the spark plug gap (sooty plugs).....which caused a need to adjust the idle air screws and the base idle rpm.

I drove the car and it has better throttle response (before, it was a little sluggish---similar to my Harley Davidson when I had it running too rich).....BUT when I looked at the sidepipe exhaust tips, they were completely black with soot.

So I removed the plugs and checked them for fouling.....THEY WERE NICE AND CLEAN/TAN-COLORED!

Then it HIT me.........."DUMMY!"

The soot in the exhaust tips was there because of the PREVIOUS RICH FUEL MIXTURE!
