Default T Top Trim

I am continuing to work on reassembly of my trim and interior on the '68 coupe. Trying to figure out how the stainless piece attaches to the roof line in the area shown in the photo. I'm thinking there must have been a small plate that was maybe riveted to the fiberglass where the holes are and then the trim had screws that went into a threaded thingy in the plate? The body shop removed this trim when they did the paint and must have removed whatever attachment components were there also. Does anyone have any idea where I could locate these plates or whatever it is that goes there for attaching the trim piece?

Well persistence pays off. I kept looking for what I imagined that fastener must look like and eventually came across a half dozen of these little guys in a random cup of random screws, nuts and other fasteners. I have ordered the rivets to attach these to the roof and hopefully I will be good to go (after a little cleaning and evaporust soak of course.)

Not sure but they look a little like the pieces that you use to mount side pipes. Some one else may know. Well maybe they do go there and get riveted. Interesting. I will have to look on the donor car.

Those are #10-24 T-nuts you can buy at any hardware store. (check thread size on your originals to be sure of a match) Attach them to the car with 1/8" diameter Pop-Rivets (aluminum or steel).

Hi,
At some point (at least by 71) it had changed to a small clip and a screw which held the clip in place against the underside of the fiberglass lip on the halo.
Regards,
Alan

That may be a 68 only or most likely a 68 and 69 item. Wouldn't it be odd if there was something they only used on a 68....naw, they would never do that, would they?

My thds on the original pieces checked as 10-32 but I was not able to find anything other than larger, round tee nuts w/ 10-24 thds anywhere. I will just reuse these and attach them with aluminum 1/8" x 1/2" rivets. Thanks for the input.
