Default toggle switch

hey Guys and Gals, The other night I was removing my radio from my 71 coupe and when I was removing the convertor from the firewall on the passenger side I noticed a toggle switch mounted to the firewall, but it didn't look like it came from the factory. Any thoughts and no I did not take any pictures of it.

There are no factory toggle switches behind the dash.

GM did not use toggle switches. Is the switch wired to something? Your description is pretty vague.

Trace the wires from that switch. If it goes to the ignition coil or distributor, it is likely a (owner installed) theft-prevention device that is used to 'break' 12 vdc from getting to the coil. Flip it, and the car won't start. Flip it the other way and you're good to go.

Inexpensive and it works great....as long as the thief can't find the switch!

Well, I did trace the wires and it was a kill switch. I rip it out and wired it correctly, didn't want to get stuck with a 30 year old switch failing.

Thanks for all of the help, Once again

Actually they do work well. I had a kill toggle switch on my 1979 many moons ago. This pic from about the year 2000. See red wires, top left.
