Can someone suggesr where I can get my clock rebuilt. Would you fix the one in the car now for about $ 250.00 or buy a new one for $160.00. Last question go electric ot quqrtz for the same cost, would quartz run down the battery if not driven much.
Hi tc,
Both the mechanical movement and the quartz movement are an electrical draw on the battery when the car is shut off.
Many people use a battery cut-off for that and other reasons if the car will sit unused for more than a few days.
Regards,
Alan
I purchased a new one from Rodger (quartz) over 25 years ago and it's still running. However, if you do buy a new one, keep in mind the second hand color will not match that of the other gauge pointers. The old one can probably be switched with the new.
Actually, there are rebuild kits available. I think Wilcox has one with video instructions.

Lets just say the clock itself is not a problem/easy to do.
Now having to go thru the left rear taillight to remove it from the car is a pretty accurate description
Not sure what year you have, but I have a white faced quartz clock (72) that is perfect that I willing to part with. I went back to a mechanical clock.
Let me know.
Bought a quartz from Willcox last year for $155.00. My car sits all summer and I have not noticed much battery drain.
Don't know what year you have but not hard to replace on my '73, just getting the bottom nuts off the gauge cluster was a bear, went back with threaded rod nuts/coupler nuts bought from true value hardware, made it a lot easier.

Reason: more info
It's actually not that hard to buy a small $5 battery powered quartz clock and fit it to the back of your factory clock and fit you hands to the quartz movement. It'll look stock, battery will last for years, and no power drain.

Rebuild it your self... Anyone with a quartz kit, a pair of pliers and a screw driver can do it.

There was an episode of Wheeler Dealers where they bought a Vette and one of the repairs was to the clock. If you can find that episode Ed the mechanic shows how to fix it.
Remove the clock and investigate to see what is wrong with it. Usually, the solenoid contacts are burnt or dirty and you might get away with just cleaning them up. But, even that will only assure you of a few years of successful use (or less). And, sometimes, the contacts are broken or the pivots in the rear plate are worn out. Then, you need to replace the clock.
Your best choice (if you really need a clock in your car), is to buy a quartz clock rebuild kit for your car at around $100. It will be just the clock guts and a couple of gears which you can DIY with your original hardware, if you are handy. {Note: These are only if you clock is a Borg unit. If it has been replaced with something else in the past, you can't use these kits.}
Otherwise, buy a complete quartz clock for your C3 and be done with it.
