Default C3 restomod project

So I've got a 79 that I got basically for free. It is rough in most ways, but looked halfway decent. The harder I looked, the more issues I found. So I bit the bullet and went all in on a full frame off restomod project. Here are some pictures so far.

This is before. Looks good from a distance.

Lots of bare wires and hanging vac lines.

Interior no bueno.

Complete resto to chassis, prob rack & pinion and brake mods, right now planning on 5.3 lm7 with cam, tune, headers. Complete interior resto. It's a budget build, so will depend on prices and availability. Have more pics, will post soon. Any input is appreciated.

What mods are you planing to do? I just ordered my crate motor for my 73 this morning. My interior was in bad shape had to replace everything..

At this point planning on a 5.3 lm7, 4l60e, I'm going to make custom rear lights, electric headlights with led/maybe hid. Considering rack and pinion and brake upgrades. That's all I have planned for mods. Subject to change.

Hi G,
Looks like you have some serious work ahead!
In this pic it looks like the body must have been holding the frame from buckling up on both this side and the passenger's side. An odd 'crease' in the frame rail?!?
Did the frame want to kinda 'come apart' when you lifted the body?
Good Luck! It sounds like you have a good plan!
Regards,
Alan

Someone had welded on the frame from underneath, as much as could be done without pulling the body. They used 1/4" steel angle, so its really strong, but the top side of the frame is gone. I drove it maybe 40 miles or so before deciding to pull it apart. It will be safe before anything else. I want it to last for a long time. I'm going to repair the frame and coat it inside and out.

I agree with 3JsVette, make it safe first... I would strip the frame and have it blasted to find any places that need to be addressed. You have a lot of work ahead of you. I have done the mods you are talking about as part of my frame off. If you have any questions the members of this form are great at answering and helping out.

Thanks. I plan on blasting it once it's all apart and I can hang the frame. I'm cutting out the known bad stuff now just to get it out of the way. What did you do for brakes?
