Default Headlight beam switch

My headlight brights are always on and I can't get them to turn off. The lever won't click or nothing. Is this what I need to fix it? If not what do I need.

If the switch is bad, yes. If you have the wrong headlamps installed or the headlamps installed in the wrong locations, that might be another reason for the problem you have. If you just get no "click" when you depress the 'brights' pedal (under the carpeting), your problem could be that something is preventing that pedal from full movement.

Lift the carpeting and check that out first.

I thought the switch was the turn signal lever where you just pull it towards you to activate it?

It is if you own a 77 or later....

Before I'd order the new part- I'd pull the old one loose and see if it's binding up- or just plain broken. You could then use a jumper wire from the hot wire (yellow) to the tan--see if the low beams work. Then try the yellow to the Lt green- that should operate the highs. Then more than likely the switch is your problem.

It happens to the best of us... for this year model (1982)..... they are mounted on the side of the steering column.

YES...and it mounts on the left side of your steering column.

AND ...BEFORE you go and BUY IT...DO what 'Richard4545' mentioned.

IT ALL has to do with IF when you pull back on the lever....you can HEAR and FEEL the switch 'CLICK'. It can simply be out of adjustment....or BAD.

If it does not work in the future...then it seems it need to be adjusted.
