I have a 78 vette with a 454 and headers, when the engine warms up and after about 10 minutes of driving the plug wires fall off , always the same ones 1,3 and 4, any ideas.
Hi g,
Perhaps the engine's heat makes those 3 wire's connectors expand just enough in their boots so they no longer grasp the end of the spark plug tightly?
The heat may be making the boot soft enough so it can slip off.
Have you compared those 3 wires to the others?
Regards,
Alan
How old are the wires, also the condition of points, cap and rotor. Very rare but can sometimes can arc and blow wire off the spark plug. Do as Alan said and check the clip end of the plug if it is loose you can take a pair of needle nose pliers and tighten it up and then clip it back on the spark plug.
Gently close the inner connector that snaps onto the spark plug tip. The rubber boot itself is not the primary item holding the wire to the plug it is a insulator.

When you install the plug boot you should feel a slight click, this assures that female end of the terminal which lies at the bottom of the boot has been inserted over the male tip of the plug and has been snapped into place.
Sort of like a metal snap on a jacket.
Can you or do you check for that ? Another important step ( I believe), is to apply some dielectric grease into the boot before installing this will help with the install, keeping any moisture out and ruining the plug /boot terminal end when it comes time to remove them for plug removal/maintenance.
Is this only happening with the current brand wire or other brands also?
From: PHOENIX, AZ Yes, it's true. You are a good woman. Then again, you may be the Antichrist.
