Some of the screws for my lower dash pads have ferrules and some are missing the ferrule. Those screws missing the ferrule cannot be tightened properly as the screw tends to start pulling through the vinyl material. I have searched for years trying to find the correct screws with the ferrules with no luck and was hoping someone on this forum might know where these can be found or an alternative solution. I posted this on the C3 technical forum and after giving it some thought decided it was better suited here.
Hi g,
I'm thinking you mean the 3 screws at the top of each lower dash pad?
Take a look at ZIP Products Item #: ZSF-379
The set includes 6 screws for that application.

Hi,
Here are the screws that were typically used to attach each of the lower dash pads.

2 through the pad into the hinge pillar, 3 across the top into the upper dash pad, and 2 through the side of the center gauge
bezel into the pad. The 3 screws that weren't chrome plated were originally painted the color of the vinyl on the pad.
All of the previous black screws with the spinning washer attached will NOT work successfully. There is not enough shoulder to keep the head from cutting into the vinyl. ASK ME HOW I know this.
What you can see in the photo Alan posted is that the tapered sleeve has much more length to it.
I will post tomorrow on what I use and they can be purchased at the big home improvement stores.
The 3 black screws shown are the only "appropriate" screws/ferrules for the upper holes on the right/left dash pads. You can do other 'things', but they just won't look right.
If you have the correct screws/ferrules and they won't hold, you will need to back-fill the holes with some JB Weld stick epoxy, then drill a new hole for the screw shank.
Alan had the source for duplicate screws. You can also find them at about any large Corvette car show with part vendors (new/used). I have never found a ferrule similar to those at any hardware outlet (or even FastenAll) nor any screws with that small of a head.
I also need those ferrules. Regular screws with the washers don't work.
You might be able to make them from a piece of brake line, small enough to fit into the screw hole and then give it a single flare. Cut it down to size and paint. That is todays project.

Hi 540,
That's the name of the part given….perhaps in error?
The photo of the parts shows the screws needed for mounting the lower dash pads.
Perhaps you might want to check with ZIP?

Alan
THESE WORK! and when I install then you can not tell that they are in there IF you spend some time in cutting them to length if you choose ....depending on the location you choose to use them in to protect vinyl.
YES...they are brass...but when I am done with them you can not see any brass and they function JUST LIKE the sleeves in the photo Alan posted.
I appreciate all the responses but none of the suggested screws and ferrules will work correctly. The black screws in Alan's photo have the correct ferrules and I have not been able to find these anywhere. If someone has a few spares please let me know if you would be interested in selling them. DUB I get an error message when I click on your link.
I'm lost understanding what screws, fasteners and Ferrules you guys are talking about. I have an upcoming dash project to finish and what I have doesn't match. I'm picturing the chrome or stainless Phillips head screws with a larger shaped washer (or ferrule) that works with the bevel of the screw and all to keep screw from pulling through the dash.
I've been searching for a good interior photo, of course now that I need one I can't find anything. Can someone post a photo showing these screws?
Hi Rich,
There are 3 of these screws across the top of each of the left and right lower dash pads.
The screw heads and ferrules are painted the same color as the vinyl.
Here's an example…. they're more difficult to see/photograph in dark colored or black interiors.
The purpose of the ferrule isn't to stop the screw from pulling through…. they're too close to the size of the screw head to do that. The ferrule prevented the underside of the screw head from 'grabbing' and twisting/tearing the vinyl skin as the screw was tightened into place.
You can see the screw head 'recedes' into the dash pad but isn't pulling through the pad.

Alan
Quite a few cars have 'lost' these 6 screws. Here you see 3 of them.
DUB's website link worked for me, and those pieces look interesting. Their [extra] length shouldn't be an issue; the flared end looks very much like the end of the stock ferrule that fits behind the screw head...and they get painted/dyed to match the interior. As far as getting a standard Phillips head screw to fit them, a little bit of work with a grinder can whittle down the head on the correct size of sheet metal screw. It's a good thing we only need 6 of them, going to that much trouble.
The larger chrome Phillips screws and chrome washers really don't look good in that location (even if they are painted correctly). It's much better for those particular fasteners to be flush [or slightly below] the surface of those dash pads.

Thanks DUB I recieved these sleeves and they seem much too large for the dash screws are the 14-8 the correct size sleeve or should I have ordered a different size sleeve?

I could have sworn that I wrote down the exact number that was on the box and posted it. I will double check and verify.
