I’m planning my next project already.
I’m planning to build a Factory Five Racing 65 Cobra Coupe.
Since I’ll have the 454, TH 400 and the IRS from this 73 Corvette, I plan to use the 454 and the IRS from my 73 in the Cobra Coupe.
I can’t wait to see the reactions I get when I pop the hood at a show.
Now, let´s not only be negative here... I have also received lots & lots of postive feedback on my C3, one of those feedbacks that I remember was at this classic car meeting with lots of classic US-cars and I was there with my C3. There was this kid with his father walking around and the father asked "Let´s take a photo with you and some classic car, which car would like to have a photo with" and the kid walks/runs straight to my C3 and points to it !!! My friend told me "No wonder that the kid wanted a photo with your C3, that car looks like it could do 190 mph by just the way it looks" .

True enough.
When my car arrived on the back of a truck, I had the guy drive to our little RV park to unload it, because it had some space. There were three RV's there, and everybody came out to have a look, and a car driving by pulled in and the guy got out to do the same. They all liked it, especially when I started it up. One of the kids thought it was a Ferrari.
I said, "No, they only come in red."
I've had my 74 for a little over 2 years now, and have had nothing but positive responses.
i suppose if somebody were to say something, my only response would be that it is fortunate that you didn't waste your money on these lemons.
It's a car. Not everybody likes a sweet classy sports car.
I wouldn't get worked up about it at all - you have a great car and enjoy it, and he's probably jealous. And 'passive aggressive'. However...................
.............I sometimes play with people who make passive aggressive comments. They normally just like to take their shots and figure that 99% of the time they'll just get away with it. So, if I'm in the mood to play with them a bit I'll - in a non-aggressive manner - just say "so what's your point?" This forces the passive aggressive person to elaborate, which they normally don't want to do and often will back down, take it back, soften it up, etc. And then you can go on having a good conversation because they know you won't let them get away with that kind of stuff. Just a thought................
I not bothered with any car shows in over a decade.....could care less, BUT every time I drive my '72 vert seen below, to a store or much of anywhere, the car get heads turned and people walk up to admire it.....
but it's a custom car, nothing stock stem to stern, wheels through roof, NOTHING.....
To the OP, I'm curious what ages are the the group (approx.), Sounds like the guy like to rattle Corvette owners cages. I own a 68 vert tri-power (now 550hp) but I'm not a Vette guy (I just wanted the 427 Tri-power), some Vette folks are the same as your nemesis ( a Mustang, why would anyone own that?). Each to their own I say, Vette vs. GT40, OK, Vette vs. Buick (GS or early Riv. not included) baah! no comparison. Icon vs. Land Yacht.

The ages of the group are about 45-65... and it was one of the 45:s who made the comment
So one more comment.
10 years ago or so I did a ground up resto of a 66 Mustang fastback. Done in the mild pro touring theme. I had such fun with the die hard Mustang guys because they always asked what "code" the car was. I always said I got the car as "A" code 289 4 speed car but sold all that stuff and installed a 347 stroker and five speed. Man they about freaked out. I quickly assured them that it was really a 6 cylinder auto car. The other thing they disliked was the C5 calipers on the front with the Corvette logo still there.
How do you react when someone talks crap about Corvette C3:s?
There was this guy (I just know him a little bit) who was joining me and some of my friends for a coffee and to talk about cars etc..
Then he tells this story "I was last weekend on a trip looking for some vintage US car to buy, they had many US cars for sale there at that place, then he looks at me and said, they also had a Corvette like yours -but who would want to own a car like that"....and he was serious, not trying just to be joking...
I did not know what to answer at that time, I know that this guy is into old 50-60´ties Buicks (I did not find the words fast enough for answering back something crap about his car).
Maybe he was just jealous when my C3 turns way more heads than his old Buick =)
I would say “hey bud, can you keep moving along please, you have bad breath. Thanks.”
I've NEVER had anyone say anything but good things, my girl attracts EVERYONE! I took my car to the yearly Corvette show at the local dealer here... apparently the dealer owner is a huge Corvette fan and moves most of his for sale stock back for this show every year. There were many, many Corvettes there. I met the president of one of the local clubs - he was driving a newer car. He asked what car I had and I pointed and said "that 76 right there". I was almost expecting a snobbish comment about my car costing less than the bumper on his car, but to my surprise, he had nothing but good things to say. He even yelled at some of his car club buddies and they all went over and looked over my car, inside and out. Anyone who says anything negative has an issue with themselves, and maybe he is jealous because of his strange taste in cars. I'll never say anything bad about someone's hobby car, but my parents had a Buick when I was growing up, and what a POS that one was....
