I think anyone who has wrestled with an older classic car and has the time and mechanical ability to bring it back to life should be commended. Clearly the C3 was a far ahead of 99% of all cars built in the sixties with regards to handling and braking. Throw in a low center of gravity and a 50/50 front rear weight distribution, and there's not much to not like, especially with regards to styling. Some people just wear their jealousy on their sleeve...
In 45 years of ownership, the only negative comments I received about my '75 coupe were from Porsche owners. Just saying...
Well, let me sound off on the Porsche crowd. When I first met my GF, she had a couple pics on her wall of a Porsche 944. I asked her if she ever had one, and the answer was no. Long story short, found a one-owner 944, needed some TLC and she had a really pretty toy. We entered it into a car show in Denver that had 4 or 500 cars, and there was a concours Porsche group there. The "Porsche judges" came over in white coats, i kid you not. I had put a touch of grease on the hinges of the doors because they squeaked and just weren't smooth. This one judge wipes her finger on the hinge, shows us the grease and says "THIS is points off!"... and then proceeds to wipe the grease on the front of her white coat. We were like, what the F ever, lol. She won first place, but only because the other 944's there were in really crappy condition. We never officially entered the car in anything concours after that. Too stuffy for us, those Porsche people!
This crowd isnt any different. Every single car hop I brought mine too resulted in a few "wanna be judges" that gotta walk up and comment how incorrect stuff was. Im not polite in responding to that stuff. wgaf what people do with their cars.
Imagine living around one of them?
How do you react when someone talks crap about Corvette C3:s?
There was this guy (I just know him a little bit) who was joining me and some of my friends for a coffee and to talk about cars etc..
Then he tells this story "I was last weekend on a trip looking for some vintage US car to buy, they had many US cars for sale there at that place, then he looks at me and said, they also had a Corvette like yours -but who would want to own a car like that"....and he was serious, not trying just to be joking...
I did not know what to answer at that time, I know that this guy is into old 50-60´ties Buicks (I did not find the words fast enough for answering back something crap about his car).
Maybe he was just jealous when my C3 turns way more heads than his old Buick =)
I would see that as being baited, for whatever reason, and I would almost agree with him in a case like that, he may be looking to just get a rise out of you and you will be getting one out of him instead. Then he can just happily ride home in his mustang Ha Ha
Just read through all of this !
I’ve found that some people are very good at catching others off guard in an attempt to make themselves seem better than someone else !
All of the suggestions here have added to my arsenal of comebacks for this kind of situation!
Here’s a few you may not have heard though !
Ask them if the ride the bus or pack a lunch!
Tell them if a$$hats were jets they would be an airport !
Tell them I try to never argue with ignorant people because they always try to drag me down to their level and then beat me up with experience!
Mostly I try to never sweat the small stuff , and especially in his case it’s all small stuff ! Lol
Most off all I would make sure that I wouldn’t allow him the opportunity to do that again with him knowing that behavior is rude and won’t be tolerated at the least by you !
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Hello C3 owners. As the proud owner of 4 C4’s, I feel the pain of someone downgrading Vettes. I constantly hear a lot of negatives about my “deplorable cars”. As a member of a Corvette Club, where most of of our members drive C6’s and C7’s, you get pretty much used to it. I’m guilty of doing my own wrenching and enjoy it. Most of the “waxers” don’t really get involved in any of the hands on pleasures of the hobby.
well, my rants over, think I’ll head back up to the C4 area!

You don't have to worry about posting here. My good buddy has a C4 that is showroom perfect. He takes it to shows and places every time. He loves it. I'd love it but I'm over 6 feet tall and I simply cannot get in and out of it, LOL. I love the look of the C4's, the "conventions" or expectations of other snobby Corvette owners are something that I simply do not adhere to. I have several cars, Ford, Chevy, don't matter. You like it, I like it for ya.
And trash talkers can simply suck it.... ha!
Just point to your nose and reply in a lower tone "Dude I hate to tell you but you've got a booger showing". Then turn away as to give him some privacy.
Last guy who bashed my Vette was years ago......that is when I had the 427/400 Vert......he kept calling it "Tupperware" (Apparently some East Texas slang for fiberglass) and so I said to him: " Hey, why don't you come back after you grow up and I will get you laid...". I thought he was going to go for it right there in the middle of the car show.....told him to give it his best shot and he backed off.
I haven't been to a Car Show in about four years now.......mostly because I am busy, but the other part is I am not going to spend the day around a bunch of angry 50-60 year old men with security issues.......
The dragstrip is a better crowd......want to do some bike shows too with the CBX......now that it is over 40 years old, nobody seems to know what it is.
It needs to be a cool crowd for me or no bueno......
I love Vette's, bikes, music, and beer.......people need to chill and have a good time.......life is short.
The most negative comment i've received was from a guy who asked "what model Pontiac is that" LOL
Nothing but positivity from everyone else ranging from young school kids to older guys who think it's great to see young people interested in classic cars.

If I was in that situation, I wouldn't be able to think of anything off the top of my head, but three days later I'd imagine how great it would have been if I'd said "A lot of people think the cars you like are worthless. As far as I'm concerned its irrelevant what others think about my C3, for me its the most desirable car I could have."
Most unusual comment I have had so far was from a new neighbour who said he thought Corvettes were selfish cars because they only had two seats. I figured his V8 powered Toyota off road race truck fitted the same definition. Hot rod people here seem to be the most stand offish about the Corvette whereas I like looking and talking about their creations.
