Most unusual comment I have had so far was from a new neighbour who said he thought Corvettes were selfish cars because they only had two seats. I figured his V8 powered Toyota off road race truck fitted the same definition. Hot rod people here seem to be the most stand offish about the Corvette whereas I like looking and talking about their creations.
I have been a Mustanger for many years. Anyone paying attention probably gets sick of hearing me talk of my 25+ year Mustang on a Corvette forum. However, been to many, many car shows. The Corvette crowd has a definitive reputation for being snotty, better than everyone else. I think another reason I love my C3 is because this particular crowd differs from that culture. This past summer there was a car show at the local Chevy dealership. Apparently the owner is a Corvette enthusiast from way back, so every year he moves lots of cars back and hosts a Corvette only show. It was great to show up and be one of only about 10 C3's there. Every one of the C3 guys started talking about the various points in their restorations, or what they had done to get the cars to where they were. To say we were welcomed somewhat hesitatingly is an understatement. Honestly? I enjoyed it. My hobby is taking that old car, working hard to get it to a shiny penny that functions perfectly.. Ok, in some cases perfectly, LOL. I guess my point being that it was evident that not only did I get the mid-70's Corvette I always wanted, but I was in the crowd I wanted to be in. Anyone looking down their noses at me are going to get what they give, just sayin'!
How do you react when someone talks crap about Corvette C3:s?
There was this guy (I just know him a little bit) who was joining me and some of my friends for a coffee and to talk about cars etc..
Then he tells this story "I was last weekend on a trip looking for some vintage US car to buy, they had many US cars for sale there at that place, then he looks at me and said, they also had a Corvette like yours -but who would want to own a car like that"....and he was serious, not trying just to be joking...
I did not know what to answer at that time, I know that this guy is into old 50-60´ties Buicks (I did not find the words fast enough for answering back something crap about his car).
Maybe he was just jealous when my C3 turns way more heads than his old Buick =)
Without the C3 there would be no insight on how to do C4 etc. Style is like aging You hope to see both!
He maybe worked on a c3,that would make most like the Buick.
Exactly, he´s been trying to accomplish any of those jobs that require baby hands and special tools from hell. Owning a C3 can be a love-hate relationship!
Serioulsy though, trash-talking another mans car is like saying his wife is ugly, you just don't do that (even if it happens to be true...)
Taste is different but if you don't like it - keep your opinion for yourself and say something polite. Or better yet keep your moth shut and say nothing at all!
