I usually ask what his favorite color is... or ball team....or if he like mountains or sea better. Whatever his answer, I mumble, "Oh, well THAT explains it!" When he presses for more info, I tell him what Redvette said.... "How boring it would be if we all liked the same thing! You like blondes? I prefer redheads. You like Buicks? I like Corvettes.
I also have been known .... when people trash talk my Corvette... to respond with, "Aren`t you glad YOU don`t have to drive it?" That usually ends the conversation right there.

I would say I like sports cars, ones that are fast and handle well and have a lot of power. Cars that turn heads and that chicks dig. Most of the people i meet at car shows like all kinds. Like most people theres some that like some more than others. But I myself wont go bashing a car to be an ***. I wouldnt really want a Pacer or Chevette, but if you stuff a 427 or 6.0 LS in it I'm gonna stop and look and ask a ton of questions because thats hot rodding!!
I would say, that I happy that he enjoys his cars, and I would says "thank god we are alle different" and there are different cars, for different people.
99% of people see a cool old car. Most of those old enough to remember them new will refer to all C3s as "Stingrays". A tiny fraction of people will know enough about them to (erroneously) give you crap about the lower performing vinyl bumper C3s. I'm happy to see a crazy mix of nifty old and new cars at the only car events I attend, and I've never had my car put down, even when it is just about the cheapest car at my local Cars and Coffee.
Anyway, a fun and US car appropriate way to tell-off someone is this:
He is, what they call here in the States, an "***-hat". Anyone who would make such a statement in the context of a casual conversation, is trying to insult you.
He is a confrontational, argumentative, "***-hat".
All of us here on the forum would own a car like that. That's who.
Drive your C3 proudly.

Some people are just rude, speaking before thinking. At a car show once a guy next to me started talking about stuff and made a comment about my car was unsafe . Just so happens my car was a Corvair, yes a Corvair. I have 3 along with a Corvette and others. He stated that they were prone to roll over, I laughed looking at what he was driving and said , I bet I would be able to out corner you any time without even being close to getting out of control . He was driving a Jeep with 44's . That was the end of that .
Consider the source, nod, and smile to yourself inside.
A one time thing, no big deal.
If it continues don’t include him in your group.
Its not worth bantering with him over it because it could disrupt the good for the entire group.
My Dad loved the old Merc’s and he would own nothing but a Buick..
He could never understand why I would buy, Chevelle’s and Camaro’s over Riviera’s or Skylark’s
Had one in the last small informal meet of the year. Great big older guy without too many teeth or recent baths cruised in on his Harley and stood right next to my 'vette looking really pissed about who knows what. I was there with my friend and his '70 Challenger that draws a lot of attention. After about an hour we went to leave and this guy stepped right up to me aggressively and started to go on about Corvettes in general and how unsafe every one ever made was, and how his Harley was an 'honest ride for a man.' Looked like he deliberately singled me out as the one 'vette there and waited. No idea who he was and could care less. Oh fer fork's sake.
I have a very nice '04 Wide Glide that I bought new and have been all over the place on. Don't recall ever wearing a stupid HD leather and bandanna superhero outfit or ever giving anyone any crap gratuitously about anything.
He literally just wanted to pick a fight. Come to a car show without a car and start talking nonsense and that's a good way to do it. Usually plenty of persoanlities around that will rise to the bait. I ignored him, pretended I didn't hear and drove away with him talking to himself. Doorknob.
