One of the better things I installed in mine. Car doesn’t want to leave the road when hitting uneven surfaces

It's not the control arms that it's stopping from flexing so I'd say it's still a valid addition (if anything, it's maybe possible that the tube arms are stronger and pass more stress to the frame and it actually flexes more ???)

i have just put new top and bottom tubular control arms and lowering springs on my 82 looking forwards to receiving my spreader bar . i did not know there could be so much flex between the shock towers

FWIW I have stock stamped control arms, but it's the frame, not the control arms that flex. And it works extremely well.

Hi Ronarndt.
do you have a parts list/ bracket measurements for your bb version?

The direct speed version is SBC only.

Günther-C3 made a spacer to move the mechanical fan out on his to clear a regular one, you could search that

Hi Mooser. I read through your thread. It’s a great add for your 68. I have a question. Do you have the dimensions for the brackets you made? I’m very interested in doing this myself. Could you provide us a parts list for your project.

The bar was one I purchased from VBP (now defunct but most of the vendors sell some version),
The brackets were 1 x 2 thin wall steel tube (to get the 3/4 inside dim needed for the heim ends) 9-1/4 long overall
Distance between the control arm bolts is 6-3/4" for 7/16 bolts, I slotted the holes .030" to allow for alignment angles. both holes are spotfaced inside 3/4" dia for the nuts to sit flat. NOTE: used 12-point nuts so a thin wall socket fits inside to tighten them
Hole for heim is 1" up from the rear mounting surface of the bracket (where it hits the alignment shims type of thing) and 1-1/8" ahead of the forward mounting bolt, .Hole size I didn't record for some reason that I can't recall but whatever size bolt was in the heim joint

VBP Spreader Bar with big block. Actually spaced to the rear of the mount to clear the Lincoln MKVIII fan. Removed cover from March Performance water pump pulley to pick up 1/4” of clearance there. All fits.

Also have solid motor mounts so the front end is SOLID.

I put the one from Speed Direct on my chassis in hopes of further stiffening it up in the corners. Glad to hear good comments about it as it will be awhile before I get to test it.

My spreader bar helped my black 80 L82 quite a bit, no noise going up the curb on my driveway, much less T Top rattle and was a immediate noticeable improvement. Fabulous bang for the buck. I’ll probably order one for my white 80 L82 soon

It's a straight compression/tension load, regular old 1020 mild steel will have yield of around 50,000psi. if you need it to "look" stronger you could always slip a piece of plastic pipe over it and paint it

Close to this type of size?
I think Richard made his out of some larger chrome-moly but it's curved to clear other items so it's in a bending moment rather than tension/compression. Maybe that's what you were seeing

I just got mine and there is no way it will fit with my Blueprint 396, vintage Air compressor and front accessories. Perhaps if I didn’t have the giant mechanical fan and thermo-clutch in the way. Guess I’ll save it for the electric fan conversion.

One of the forum members sold me a VB&P spreader bar with spacers but no brackets.
I built a couple of brackets based off of VB&P dimensions.
It has lots of clearance with my ZZ6 EFI with serpentine system and my DeWitts aluminum radiator and dual spawl fans...
