David, I have a new phone and don’t have a picture of mine installed and the car is in GA right now and I am in NY. Can’t believe I don’t have a pic but I don’t!
I made one for my 68 convert with bb and it makes the car more solid in hard cornering.
Agree. I have a 68 convertible also but with the SB. The 68 verts have a lot of body flex. Anything to stiffen them up is great.
I think a C2/C3 with the iron BB needs the spreader bar. I've read of people with this configuration having trouble with the BB weight bending the frame crossmember that runs underneath the crank damper/pulley. The spreader bar prevents this bending. I also agree that this is a great mod for a C2/C3. My spreader bar was installed by Dick Guildstrand. I don't think they are in business anymore since Dick passed away. Great guy.
Has anyone put one like the link above into a 79 or similiar with ac and belt guard staying and clutch fan?
also thought on leaving nuts on and going over the existing studs with new nuts and fabricating a bracket that has holes or one side or both open and then bend downto touch rod for support? I have plenty of threads..
boy it looks tight across manual fan and pulleys..for a straight bar..maybe a sway bar curve would still be stiff enough?
This is the same Sharkbite spreader bar as @trans am kev. There's lots of room with electric fans and no AC. You can certainly keep the AC, and think it even clears the clutch fan, but you may have to notch your shroud. Does the L82/AC shroud, with the aux fan, extend further back?
EDIT: Just to clarify, since I see different names for the same thing, it is the spreader bar for the Shark Bite suspension system, sold by Speed Direct. It comes in their kits, or is available separately.
Hmmm,I have the same problem on a 78' with AC. Hoping to see what the responses are. Hdal
i just ordered from this thread @Richard454 posted.. 40 bucks shipped.. and complete build list.. Speedway Motors..never bought from before but best price and 10% sign up email first order says Sunday delivery ordered last night!
edit...one inch broom stick fits but it is lower than the brace..very tight..added pics...if the bar is inline with bar itwill not fit
i'm thinking i like the u shaped channel to slip into the belt shield side and round hole for other.. then fabbing bracket to clear fan and pulleys best? @drwet pic may be very helpful on all areas..
ya its tight in there @Bikespace but do not have comparison...the drivers side though should be easier..i really like the idea of NOT using the nuts and just top loading another but.....
[QUOTE=drwet;1603349559]Here you go. Speed Direct spreader bar on a '79 with stock fan clutch and A/C:
Thanks!
well hells bells...fabbing my own would not be advisable
may i ask
is belt guard in place?
I have extra pulley for air pump..is yours still there?

My car did not have an AIR pump and what do you mean by a belt guard?
Thanks all..
belt guard cover the lower rad hose on rear passenger side stud.
good to hear pulley not issue..
tried removing pulley cannot do it fan doesn’t sit right, unless im missing something .
Debating diy or buyng..i like idea of slotting rear side of bracket for easy removal/ install as it is a pita reach

I see the belt guard now in one of your photos. I guess mine is long gone.
