Suggested colors for 77 with red interior were white, silver, black, tan, and medium red. The last being regular red as opposed to dark red. If the car in your avatar is the one in question and red is the original color I would stick with that for originality. Easier and much cheaper repaint as well, no door jambs, etc. Also cheaper as a non metallic color. And red on red is somewhat rare and desired. If your car is otherwise not very original and you want a change I would go with Silver, very striking combination. Again as a metallic color will be harder and more expensive to paint.
I really favor red for the Corvette. But, I agree with @LeeS, if you are changing the exterior color, a Corvette Silver would be great. The Silver (to me) brings a bit of elegance.
I have a 78 project and the interior will be the 78 red but I am planning on the exterior being a blue, either Targa or Bryer. Search this forum for thread about 72 blue /red vert on Ebay. GOrgeous color on any year C3. IMHO.
Silver on a red gut is stunning. Think Steel Cities gray or maybe a later model Cyber Gray color. Just a slight bit darker than regular silver. Add 2 matching red spears on the sides of the hood and it just pops.
