If God knows anything about Harley Davidson’s I may never make it into heaven,.
I painted my 100 year anniversary Harley Fat Boy all black.
Nobody ever said a word.
Right on!
I'm bouncing back and forth between earlier flags, or the 80-82 flat and wide front flags.
I'll be wet sanding this weekend. While I was waiting I polished and repainted the original emblems. They look pretty good.
I'm toying with the idea of replacing the front nose emblem with flags from an earlier car. The round 25th emblem is huge looking, and kinda hurts the sleek lines of the car. I dunno though, I'd probably never hear the end of it at car shows from Vette guys.
Doesn't the 79 have the same emblems as the 77? So if I saw your car with the crossed flags emblem on the nose I would probably assume it was a 79 rather than a 78. But either way I would not have a problem with "incorrect" emblems on your 78.
Cut and buffed the front fender today just to get an idea on what the final product will look like.
Wet sanded from 1000 to 3000 and hit it with some Meguiars heavy cut compound, followed up with their finishing polish. It's looking pretty flat and slick.
Got the car out in the sun today. I'm really liking the 79 nose emblem!
Also got the bumperettes painted, the other emblems installed, front grills painted and installed, and buffed the tail lights and side markers. Mirrors are also back on, and door glass installed and adjusted.
While I'm waiting for the decals to come in, I decided to pull the dash and center console to clean some things up. Took all the duct work out and soaked it in purple power, followed by a pressure washing. Diagnosed the window switches not working, and installed all LED bulbs in the cluster while it's out. Also running all new speaker wiring front to back.
Pulling the dash also allowed me to check out all the vacuum lines for the HVAC, and lubricate all the moving parts for the system.
Here's a pic before any real cleaning. It was a mess, but everything is in tact and not a spec of rust in the birdcage!
Things have escalated slightly. I wanted to replace the rear window trim clips, but they were covered and buried in window sealant and rtv. Instead of fighting with them, I removed the rear window to clean everything up. I'll also be tinting the glass while it's out.
I also have the interior pretty much gutted, and have been sound deadening everything.
Did you break any of the rear window trim clips? I broke a couple taking off my rear window trim, I have to figure out where to buy more.
A few of them were broken, and the rest were no longer springy enough to hold the trim. I bought reproduction ones, but they're metal instead of the original plastic type. They'll work fine though.

See your car came with cruise control. You anticipate it working again?
Car is looking great!
It originally didn't have cruise. I replaced the steering column as the original was busted up pretty good due to a failed theft. I dont plan on hooking it up, as I really dont like how cruise feels. Plus the roads around here are too curvy to use cruise much at all.
