I aquired some more important pieces to this puzzle recently:

Got a nice set of driver quality grills for $400. Chrome is in good shape and they're in a LOT better shape than the ones that came on my car.

I finally got ACI to send me another valance, and got the correct one with ears this time. This one doesn't fit perfect either, but it's a whole lot closer! Good thing I'm planning on glassing this in so I can hide the defects:

Now it's time to jump into the next difficult body work task: rebonding the fender corners. I've done some research to figure out my strategy and ensure a clean job. I'm going to put bonding trips on , VPA it on to hold it in place, then V out the seam and properly glass in.

I mocked this up today and I can bond and clamp in the bonding strip to try and avoid drilling holes into the fenders and keeping only one glass seam:

Flipped a coin tofday: TAILS = time to tackle the valance on the back!

Strategy here was to gfit it best possible and get it in alignment to glass it in, then finish over with filler .

Since I was glassing it in, I had to remove the tabs and grind it flat on the back so I could put bonding strips in:

Grinded back the gel coat for glass then started manipulating it in place and holding it in Vith Cleco Clips:

I then bonded in some small bonding strips with VPA, clamped them on the quarters on each side and alloved them to cure before I clipped them to the valance:

Did the same to the other side and put some fiberglass on the back side to hold it in place:

Of course, there were fitment issues I couldn't resolve.....

And even with the bumper on it was noticeable.. I stopped and thought about it for a fews hours..

Maybe I got carried away, but decided to go ahead and splice in the original middle piece to resolve this fitment issue:

Here we go!!!

And then I made more bonding strips with the original valance and created one piece with the valance:

All of this to go from this:

To this :

It appears I'll be able to make this work and the bottom is aligned pretty well. Hopefully I'm not chasing my tail here!!!!

I had the valance molded and did the rear bumper delete because there isn’t chrome on the front.
Between that, the new front bumper cover and the hood, the painter put a lot of labor into it to make it all right.
You’re doing fantastic work on yours.

I've also gotten some glass work done on my rear valance. I didn't update when I started to fully glass everything in, so this is where I left off recently. I made bonding strips and used VPA to get it aligned. Then came back front and back with glass.

Tonight I finished glassing the back side of the panel to fill the last bottom seams and the rest of the gaps . She's fully glassed in now!

Next ill do one last round of glass to strengthen some areas , then sand it don and start working VPA then filler. The heat is awful, but slowly working through it!!

Congratulations on the baby boy coming.
Having a child is a wonderful experience.
Back when we had our’s you found out what it was when they popped out.
I remember I was so excited I forgot to look and see if they were boy’s or girl’s.

Nice work on the C3.
You better hurry, because when that boy comes, you’ll have no time for anything else.

I was never planning on having kids when I was younger, but I'm 38 now and more than ready! we're very excited about it!

we did IVF, so we knew the sex of the embryo before they put him in, so there was no suprise! I really wanted a boy, so no complaints here!

I'm trying to juggle getting the house reno done on top of the vette, so you can see which one is taking precendence! lol Fall is coming so I'll have cool nights to finish up my body work and get the car ready for paint by the holidays! (I said the same last year! LOL)

Seeing the pics of your car in paint is exciting and motivating! I can only imagine how excited you are to be rounding that corner!

OCB is spot on. In the first 6 months after birth, you'll have no time for anything else. Once they are 9-11 months you can set up a play spot in your cleaned, temp controlled garage/workshop. No painting, sanding, grinding, etc. Wife was always happy to have a couple hours in the house to relax while boys were with me. Both my sons loved the yellow bouncy car. Had a TV set up in front of it as a further distraction for them. Over time we changed what we did in the shop but always had fun. Now they are 14 & 16 and when I look at pics we took when they were way younger, seems like just a short time ago. Congrats OP.

Dang, my daughter is turning 37 this month and my son is turning 40 this October.
Back when they were babies, I was into boats, which made the perfect play pen.
Back in the day, it took at least two people to move a tv and they were big bulky and no way to mount them on a wall.
There were no electronic devices to keep the kids entertained.
It was 99% entertaining the kids and 1% getting anything else done.
Hey, diapers were still cloth, disposable diapers were just coming on the market and don’t let the grandparents find out you were using those things.
All of a sudden I feel really old.

I get it.
My "baby" just flew the nest, and bicycled 4200 miles from the Atlantic to the Pacific!
It was really hard to see the last boy leave home..... at least he did it in a really big way.

Matt's my 23 yr old on the left

All I can say is, it is awful quiet at home now.
Got used to the noise with 4 boys.

Enjoy them while you can. They don't stay home that long.
If you can keep the car hobby going great. If not, you'll be back at it, like me, after a 25 year "sabattical"

4200 miles is one incredible ride!!!

I'm lucky in that my stepdad and I are both gear heads and talk cars all the time!

My dad and I are into boats, fishing, and outdoors so still get to spend quality time together.

I grew up in a house of 6 siblings: never was quiet and always a lot going on! Out holidays are madness and my mom never adjusted to not having kids in the house once we all grew up.

Your kids are my age, I turn 38 this month. I remember those days well! I was the last generation to go through college without smart phones (thank god my stupiditity wasn't documented! lol) I grew up in the country and spent all my summers in the woods. we'd dissappear all day and not have to get home until it got dark, great memories! Me and my friends had old dirtbikes and had trails for days! I'm fortunate enough to live in the country now and intend to raise my boy the same way. I'm ready to buy a 4 wheeler and he's not even born yet LOL

Sorry about letting your thread take a turn towards child-rearing. I will say to you, over and over, you hear people telling you about how time flies. At 38, it's been 20 years since you graduated high school. Seem that long or just a few years ago? Anyway, cherish and enjoy the times you have with your son and take scads of pics. Time does fly. Your project looks interesting and good luck with it!
