I really like that egg crate modification. I haven't painted mine yet, and your change is tempting. Nice job.
Thanks. I like it way better than the stock look. But credit is due to the phantom member. I stole it from his build. I thought it was genius and looks better than the 69 gills too.
Highlighting the narrow perimeter and vertical edges of the remaining grid with a contrasting color might look pretty nice.
You could simulate it with black pinstripe to see how it looks before taking the plunge.
hey, that’s a good thought. I’ll kick that around. Thanks.
Cut one of the glassed in vents the po put in. Got the modified vent mocked up. Just need to clean up some body work in the fender and find a way to affix them. The po cut off the holes for the 2 screws and stud. I’m really happy with the look.
As the po glassed in the old crates and how I got the car. Another as is shot. With the modified vents mocked on. I think the look is killer!

Good work....looks sharp....easy access when inserts are removed.
(I had to rebuild missing/broken fiberglass tabs. brackets and such from previous owner "mods" .I always used overkill by adding thick sheetmetal supports=then fiberglassing over the sheetmetal to hide/blend-in the new tabs/etc. per other members suggestions)

Got the underside of the hood done to gain experience. I’ve never done body work before so I wanted to start with this. I wanted the underside to be finished the same color as the car. A LOT of body work went into the underside of the hood as it was made with a rough fiber glass finish under underneath so I had to spend hours smoothing it out with filler and sanding
Setting up the home made booth Use a blower fan to create a vacuum environment Right before the primer-sealer coat After primer Wiper cowl after primer After 2 basecoats and one clear coat With 2 clear coats
Been about a million years since I did bodywork for a living, but we used to wet the floor of our spray area down, to keep dust/dried overspray from being blown back up onto the paint surface.
Nice little booth set-up with the exhaust fan. What, if anything, did you use to filter the air intake into the booth?
didn’t have one for intake. But honestly didn’t get many issues at all. Used tack rag between coats and turned pretty good for first time. I am going to sand back down and respray. I didn’t like the color match so much.
No pictures to show but I’m still working the body. One panel at a time. Then I will sand with 400 then primer. Then sand again. Then sealer and base/clear. I’m doing this in 4 parts. I’ll post pictures as I get through all this.

I’m also going to try a intake fan with a filter duct taped to it to improve on the booth set up. Does anyone know if the intake fan should be set up high or can it be on the floor? Should there be a stream of air over head the panel to keep trash from falling down?
The professional booths I'm familiar with exhaust air out. They are completely sealed except for where the air comes in, and that intake is filtered. There are also filters right before the exhaust fans.
