Turtle - When it gets cold, I shut my windows! I'm glad that your liking your tires.

Don't guess about camber settings. Get yourself a tire temp gauge.

CCW's-complete custom wheels-they'll make wheels as big as you want and you won't need adapters. Yes they seem pricey, but they're not bad for what you get.

Yes, there are some tracks in germany, but they are either way in the south or the east, nowhere near me. Oscgersleben is probably the closest and it's over half a day of driving just to get there. And they don't have trackdays apart from the Oschersleber Test Tage (test days) where you run w/ a bunch of idiots, imagine porsches, bimmers, go karts, bikes...just about anything with wheels on it on the track.

This is a great thread.

My car currently has the a-arms out and will all be going back together with poly bushings 550 springs and bilstiens. Hopefully by the end of summer it will have a new rear composite spring and some rims.

Those cragar steelies are the right price!

Then here for a track day to see what the weakness is. (I already know its HP)
http://www.pueblomotorsportspark.com/map.htm

The straight is used for the drag strip. With a 4 speed and 3.70 gears I will be passed. But its all good. I jsut want to get out there and drive without ph34r of cops and oncoming traffic.

3.73 gear and your speed limited????? You just need a motor that turns more RPM. I can drive @140 mph with 4.11 gears.

yeah 5k and its all over...actually it never really starts. Stock L48

I always planned on doing suspension then motor. Well suspension is nearly complete. Now I want to autox / road course it for a few times before I have to sink money into the motor. Im going to be sooo incredibly toasted at the track.

Gotta start somewhere.

At 6500 rpm I can go roughly 140 in 3rd gear with 3.55's. The only think holding me back from 7500 is my lifters.

Most of the serious guys in the club dial in so much negative it looks like the wheel is going to fall off.
The guldstrand bushings will shorten your upper a-arms and lengthen your lowers and you will gain more negative.

How can you race in stock seats? I can barely hold on when I take corners in my car.

You can get normal steel bushings w/ nylon liner from VSE or from other speedshops.

I thought it was the pre 70..not 100% certain, why nto measure the arms and contact speedwaymotors. I have mine from VSE and they don't fit a stock arm at all.

FREAKIN' IN-CAR LAPS....HOW SWEEEET IS THAT?

When are you in Buttonwillow again? I live in Bakersfield but work a lot out of state. I would coordinate a trip home to be in B'willow when you guys are scheduled.

Dave do you need any spacers for the wheels to clear the calipers?

I just got off the phone. Ordered the Guldstrand all steel bushings. I don't want to fool around with trying to fit generic ones. These are expensive but should be straight forward. The lower need to be tack welded in and the upper are knurled.

I have a 5 point harness that holds me in the seat pretty good. Those are C4 seats which have a lot of side bolster. I'm not against a racing seat and that may happen this year.

I want to also get the rear strut rods with the hem joints. I am moving towards making things more solid. Also going to finally install my spreader bar. its going to be tricky with the mechanical fan.

You don't think that thin nylon sleve will eventually get brittle crack and slide out? I've seen other applications with nylon like that self destruct.

I figure a few wraps of teflon tape between the shaft and Guldstrand bushing will keep things sliding good and quiet it down some.

Gotta start somewhere.

I want to encourage everybody but don't want to blow smoke up anyone's as either. You are right to give it a try before you go adding all kinds of hp. The car will be all you can handle with the L48. You might want to try autocross first to get a feel for how to control the car at lower speeds. Plan on getting passed by all the rice rockets like the subaru WRX and such. An ego can be dangerous out there. Your car will be slower. End of story.

On average we have about 2 or 3 wrecks per track day. On last saturday a brand new Subaru lost a wheel and beat up the front end, another guy hit a huge oil slick from a guy that blew a motor in front of him and he hit a tire wall. Lots of car damage from hitting oil. Nothing you can do when a car throws a rod in front of you.

A few years ago a guy rolled his brand new 350Z at Lime Rock. It looked like someone put it in a car crusher.

A guy just died on last Saturday at Buttonwillow.

Don't worry about who is passing who and just learn how to drive and have fun.
